So me and my 22 month old son were coming out of the grocery store this afternoon when I walk over to my car and I see a man get out of the drivers side. For some reason my first thought was "Oh this isnt my car" but quickly realized "Hey this IS MY CAR!". I just stopped dead in my tracks as I felt my heart just sink. I was so shocked! I starred at him as he walked into the store and he kept looking at me like "What are you gonna do about it".  I was speechless. Any of you probably would of yelled at me telling me to do something but honestly in the moment I couldnt. I had my baby with me and my first thought was "If I make it obvious this guy was caught, who knows what he might do". I just couldnt take the risk.

I got into my car, looked around and saw that nothing was stolen. I'm not sure what this guy was after. I immidetly called my FI at work but he didnt answer so I called my dad (LOL I still call my dad in time like these!) he told me to call the cops and still file a report. I got a good description, of him and the car I think he was driving. (I saw the guy he went in with get out of the car next to mine) and I filed the report. Im SO hoping they catch this guy. Oh the nerve of some people!!!

Any other bees get into a situation like this????

You did the right thing. Your safety and that of your child was the most important thing. Wow...some people have a lot of damn nerve. I hope the cops catch him and at the very least make him do some community service...scumbag.

I'm glad you and your son are okay.  Hopefully they'll catch him.  My only thought would be that the guy he was with was probably also getting out of a car that didn't belon to him. Yikes!

Oh so scary!  I did have something similar happen to me...I was walking out of a bar from happy hour and going to my car.  There was a guy peering into my car and then i saw him trying to break in. I felt the same way as you, I didn't want to say anything because I didn't know what he would do or what he was looking for.

At the same time I saw a cop coming up behind me.  The dude must have seen the cop too because he started trying to casually walk away.  I did flag down the cop and point the guy out but I honestly don't know if anything happened to him.  I was just too much in shock to really do much about it.

Very scary! I would be scared and then really pissed off. I'm glad you and your baby are okay. I've been in similar situations and tend to want to call my partner, my bff, my parents first... but sometimes calling 911 first is the right thing to do!

Sigh, some people! What a jerk that guy was. :(

You did the right thing especially since your baby was with you.  Kuddos to filing a report, and I know hindsight is 20/20 but calling 911 first if anything like this or slightly criminal is always best.  You never know, that license plate may be the much needed puzzle piece.

From experience---if nothing was stolen at all (make sure your registration and insurance card are still in the car!) then he might have been preparing to try and steal your car by either hotwiring or breaking the steering column and rigging the car that way.  I'm just glad he didn't get that chance and I'm so glad you both are alright!

Camera phone!  Did you get pics of him?  Pics of his car?  I hope they catch this bastard!  The nerve of him to give you the looks of "What are you gonna do about it?"  Oooh!  It would be sooo good if he gets caught and you can quietly say "THAT'S what I did about it, loser!"

Oooh your story gave me the heebiejeebies! People are sooo creepy.

I'm glad you didn't cause a scene. You had your son with you who knows what he could've done! You did the best thing in your situation, file a report, end of story.

and of course, tell us bees to get it off your chest!

i had a scary moment in the same context of this once. i drove over to a boyfriend's house while i was in college to cut his hair, was only in there for maybe 30 minutes before i left to cut hair for another friend at her house, walked out the back door and heard a rustle in the bushes next to me. i looked over to the driveway to see my dome light on, my car door open, my center council ripped open as well as my dash. luckily, there was nothing in the car besides my owners manuel, a few tampons, an old phone charger and a 2 liter of coke. but it scared the crap out of me, esp since i'm sure thats what i heard in the bushes next to me as i walked out of the house. good thing i still had my apron on with my shears and my straight razor in it's pockets!

good thing you are alright and there was nothing to be taken.

Are you sure there were no old receipts or papers in your car that may be missing? I know that cars around here get broken into around here just to steal personal information. I would just keep en eye on my credit report etc. So glad you and your baby are safe though!

You did the right thing though..im sorry this happened to ya!

I worked at a small scale discount store and i left my phone and keys in my jacket pocket in our breakroom..a 14 year old kid broke in and and stole it..then walked out to my car and stole my purse! The one time i take my purse to work! They cought him that night breaking into another car in a Kmart parking lot..his 24 year old sister was driving him around..he was stupid enough to call his mother from my cell 3 TIMES! Then the dumbass woman called back. I got so upset, i pretty much called her and her son every single nasty word you could think of. With my short temper though, if i did not have my child with me at some point, i would have flown at the guy! Ugh i just get so mad when people do this!

Ya know girls I was thinking....Why would he get into my car and not steal anything???? I didnt have anything too valuable but I did have 3 or 4 new cds in my middle compartment. Nothing was moved. I mean nothing. I even left he diaper bag which looks like a brown suade purse in the seat next to me. I specificly remember tossing the diaper bag into the passenger seat and watching it fall over onto its side. Then when I got in the car it was still in the exact same posistion. I have a feeling this guy was just trying to find out who I am. Which is scary because one of my moms friends who heard about what happened told my mom to tell me to be careful because theres been a string of murders happening in the area. And the murder hides in the car. SCARY!

So I went on a made my facebook account completely private and I'm at home today so I have all the doors and windows locked. I'm not sure if I sound like I'm exaggerating but I just want to make sure...... I'm starting to wonder if he just wanted my identity. Any police officer bees out there that have seen something like this happen????

When people break into cars here, it's usually because something valuable is out in the open - a purse, a GPS device, or any indication that there is an expensive item hidden, like an ipod adapter. My first thought is that he saw the diaper bag and assumed it was an easy purse to grab, but then realized it was just, in fact, a diaper bag.

Oh wow. That was crazy. I'm glad you and your baby are ok. Were your doors locked? I doubt that he was trying to steal it. He was probaby trying to find something to steal like a gps or something.
