Hi Ladies! I thought I would share my experience today incase it can help anyone. 🙂
So, after many painstaking weeks of crafting my invites, they were finally ready!! Like all the smart Bees recommend, I took an example to two post offices to find out what the postage would cost. $0.61- Sweet! I carefully picked out the stamps and assembled (my FI thought I was nuts for caring so much about a stamp. But seriously, would you create an awesome painting and put it in an ugly frame?).
Anyways, this morning I go to the post office– I ask the clerk about hand-canceling and she prompts me just to hand them over (how anti-climatic!). I get out the door, but being a little OCD, go back in to recheck the postage one more time. She said she assumed I had already checked, but alas, now it costs $0.81!! (Damn you, little bump from a tiny bow!!!). If I hadn’t gone back, all of our guests would have had to fork over $0.20 to free my invites from USPS captivity. Eeeeks, I would have been mortified!!
SO, the lesson (although it might be common sense to most), explicitly ask about any irregularities on your invites. Don’t just turn them over without checking a final time. Don’t assume the clerk will double-check or notice any problems. And finally (although I forgot, doh!), mail a test invite to yourself. *sigh* Can anything about planning for a wedding ever be easy?
