So we FINALLY got our marriage certificate and I’m in the process of changing my last name. Any Cdn newlyweds out there that can help me out with whom I need to contact? I’ve already sent in to Canada Revenue, MB Health and my bank. I’m not changing my passport as it doesn’t expire ’til 2012. I’m going to go to a Service Canada office to get a new SIN card and maybe ask them about anything else?
Any help is appreciated!

@CherryWaves: Pretty sure I started with the driver’s license, then health card, SIN card, bank cards, credit cards, car insurance (although by an accident I think I forgot this for a little while), (house insurance will stay in whatever name you had when you bought). Changed everything through work and professional associations. Mostly I tried to do it all at once by going through my wallet of cards. Things will come up over the next year here and there so keep those ID cards handy.
I didn’t actually find the whole name changing thing to be too painful. Hopefully yours works well too.

if you go on service canada’s website and go to life changing events marriage is one of them, and there it lists all the places you have to go to change your name on your SIN, DL, MCP, Passport and with revenue canada
I looked it up so i can be prepared lol….though it is a long time away for me

Thanks guys! I did my DL and car insurance last night. I still own my condo in another city so I’m not sure if I should be changing anything over there, like insurance, hydro, property taxes, etc…

What about work things? For my work I need to change my name with HR, for benefits, for accidental death insurance, for email and for business cards. I know my work has a 30 day policy (if you don’t submit the paperwork after 30 days, you cannot change your benefits and death policies until you have a baby/adopt!).
