Inspired by the bee who just met David Tutera!
I passed by James Brown's table at Applebee's when I was in high school. He was eating something sizzling, I think fajitas. But he's from Augusta, so it wasn't that big of a deal.
While I was in college up in Atlanta (15 yrs ago), my friends and I went to Blockbuster, and I'm the only one who recognized the couple in front of us. It was Eric Stoltz and Bridget Fonda. They were in town filming some movie, I can't remember which one now. I started jabbing my friend over and over again, but she wasn't that impressed.
David Justice, former Atlanta Braves player, came to our town and played in a minor league game. I stood right next to him at the table where he sat and signed everyone's autographs. I didn't want his signature, I was just content to stare at him and swoon with my mouth wide open. LOL, he probably thought I was slow or something.
My celebrity sightings aren't that exciting, oh well, but who have you seen or met in person????
I met Lance Bass once when he came to my school to speak about his new book and he stayed for pictures and autographs (I think this was about two years ago). I also met Jim Gaffigan (comedian) through the same type of situation and he was super nice!
I met Kim and Kris Kardashian Kim was kind of a Biatch but Kris was super nice.
I've met a lot of bands that were big in the 90's - Bush, No Doubt, Sponge, Everclear, Garbage, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Letters to Cleo, etc. In high school, my friends and I would go to shows and hang out by their tour buses afterwards. I have some great pictures of all these guys, too!
Recently, I saw Colin Powell and Larry David at a Yankees game on my honeymoon, and Jenny Lewis (lead singer of Rilo Kiley) in the West Village. Also Paris Hilton and Brody Jenner, but I didn't actually "meet" them. They were at a bar (not the same night), and they were in the VIP room and didn't ever come out and mingle.
I'll add that Lance Bass wasn't my favorite person but who knows, maybe he was tired or under stress.
I've met Paula Deen, Keith Urban, David Cook, Colbie Callait, Leann Rimes and Jack Ingram. I like my country singers if you can't tell
I bumped into Bruce Willis a few weekends ago. I never had thought much about him, but let me tell you, that is one good-looking man. Yum.
Living in LA I've seen hundreds. I work one block from the Kardashians store and the area also happens to be a residential area for a lot of celebrities, so I often catch paparazzi taking some star's photo at a restaurant or grocery store on my lunch break. The most recent ones that I can remember in the last couple months would be Steven Tyler, Tommy Lee, Rebecca Romijn, Richie Sambora and LeeAnn Rimes.
As far as having met any, I shook Arnold Schwarzenegger's hand, and Matt Dillon flirted with me and a friend in a bar once. That one made me giddy at the time :)
@Chillmer: I'm so jealous, those bands are awesome! I went to a Sponge concert, and Letters to Cleo opened for them. It was in this small club venue, and we were so close to the stage. Loved it. Bush came to the Hard Rock in Atlanta when I was a freshman in college, but by the time we got to the restaurant the line was wrapped around for miles. *sigh* I love me some Gavin Rossdale.
Maybe I should do a thread about what concerts we've all been to. Some of mine would be quite embarrassing, I'm afraid, lol!
I keep a list of bands I've seen live in a notebook because it's around 200 or so now. Going to concerts is my favorite thing in the world. Mike and I went to three in a one-week span back in June!
Some of mine are bad, too. I'll see anyone though. Probably the lamest on my list are Britney, NSYNC, and Ke$ha.
Honestly I never cared much about celebrities so I have this feeling I've seen more and I'm just not remembering... I know I saw Joaquin Phoenix coming out of some studio in NY (lenno or letterman... can't recall which is in NY). My mom will swear forever that we saw carmen electrica in LA but I don't think it was really her.
The only person I can think of that I've actually met/talked to was Krist Novoselic (bassist from Nirvana). He is on the board for a non-profit I worked for and he came to one of the president of the non-profit's dinner parties so I got to hang out and chat with him a bit. That was pretty cool bc I love Nirvana!
@CorgiTales: Haha, I sat next to Joaquin Phoenix in a cafe in NY once and the entire time I thought he was a homeless guy :) And that was before his weird bearded rapper days.
My grandfather was a big time hockey player so I've met a bunch of celebrities through him and charity events: Matthew Perry (not very nice) and his dad (awesome!), Ty O'neal (he played the cowboy in Might Ducks 2), Matthew J Fox, Wayne Gretzky, Dave Coulier (Full House), a lot of former and current Red Wings players, Carson Palmer (Cincinnati Bengals QB) and a few others that weren't as memorable. One time we were on vacation in Florida and N'SYNC had a concert like an hour away (so obsessed!) and my grandpa called and got us tickets/backstage passes - apparantly Chris is a big fan - so I have pictures with those guys. Hulk Hogan was there with his daughter Brooke too (she was a huge fan also) and we ended up sharing a box with them for the concert. That was in the late 90's when he was still super ripped up. Not kidding, his bicep was bigger than my sister's head!
I met Maj. Richard "Dick" Winters (Ret) in high school (He lives a town over from my hometown), Frankie Manning at his last major public event (Lindyfest 13), and also Katie Couric when she came to Ocean City in the 90s while my family was on vacation.
FH met a couple of the Spurs players and then saw Tommy Lee Jones at Blockbuster- but they live 3 blocks apart so it wasn't that big of a deal to him.
@piglet67: Colbi Calliet played on my campus this spring- she invited two of my friends onto her bus so she could play with my one friend's puppy.
Again here I go showing my age, but I met Jon Bon Jovi when I was 16.. he was super nice and humble. :)
I've met/come across a lot of celebrities lving in NYC. The most memorable encounters have been when I least expected it:
1) I got checked out by Colin Farrell! Yup, I was at a bar in Manhattan, and saw someone staring at me, like seriously looking me up & down! So, I looked up only to see a famliar face I couldn't quite place with a name. It took a few seconds and then I realized who it was! Only to then freak out and run to the other side of the bar to find my fi and tell him! lol He freaked out and said "Where is he? I'll go tell him off!" lol. I convinced the fi it was best to ignore him.
2) I was walking into a startbucks and had the door held open for me by.. Freddie Prinze Jr. hehe ..I was in love with him growing up, and at the time he was living in NYC filming a TV show. He was leaving as I was entereing, so once I thanked him and walked in I realized who it was!
3) I also had the not so pleasant experience of seeing Lindsay Lohan, on numerous occassions, completly inebriated, dancing on bars etc...real messy drunk.
I saw Maura Tierney once (ER), but didn't meet her. Other than that, sadly, I haven't met any famous people!! I grew up on the east coast of Canada though, not too many celebrities around there.
I saw Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes while they were in town filming something - I live right next to like, an old castle type building that's in an old neighbourhood so they do a lot of fliming there for 1920's era movies.
Back in the day I met Hanson. I've also met the entire St. Louis Blues team several times because I used to work for the team. Some of them are sooooo pretty when they are dressed up! I ran into one particular player so often that we became good friends. Even after he got traded to a different team we still keep in touch all the time.
While I was in NYC a few years ago I saw Lindsay Lohan's make up, I think she was actually under there somewhere. I saw another chick but I can't remember her name.
I grew up in Las Vegas until I moved to Reno when I was 18, but as a young teen Living in Las Vegas, working in the casinos, I suppose I was a little bit of a "groupie."
I use that term in quotes because I never slept with any celebs, although I did make out with Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys. Sleeping with celebs, in my mind, is what a groupie is--I just liked to meet them and have the chance to hang out with them.
I had the opportunity to hang out with a few people-- Nick Carter, The Black Eyed Peas before they were popular, Justin and Kelly Clarkson right after the first season of American Idol, Nappy Roots, James Vanderbeek from Dawsons Creek, MC Hammer (it's a looong story, haha) and I wouldn't say "hung out with" but my girlfriends and I got invited to Nelly's Billboard Music Award after party.
Other than that, I had the chance to meet a TON on celebs, it was kind of "my thing" back in the day. Being young and cute, and having an "in" it was easy to find out where they were staying, and where they hung out. I've met: All of Nsync and the backstreet boys, Brittney Spears, Run DMC, Steven Tyler, The entire American Idol cast from the first Season, Aaron Carter (llaaaame), Simple Plan, Green Day, Pink, Beyonce, Ludachris, Hanson, Reeba Mcentire, Brad Garret, Jack Johnson, Jack osbourne, Lars from Metallica, Mark Mcgrath, Wade Robinbson, Jenna Jamison and Ron Jeremy (ew, pervert!), Lynard Skynard (the whole band), Michael Jordan and Mike Tyson. That's all I can remember off the top of my head, but I spent a few good years doing that. It was fun, but I moved and Reno isn't exactly a celeb hot spot. It was fun while it lasted. :)
I have seen: Rihanna, Kat von D, Russell Simmons, David Duchovny, Kid Rock, Chris Brown, Kevin Spacey, and Anna Faris. Kevin Spacey was in NYC, Anna Faris was here in Boston, David Duchovny was in LA, and all the rest were when I lived in Vegas. Rihanna is STUNNING in person.
Also, I don't know if anyone is a fan of The Wire (the HBO TV series) but one of the actors lives around the corner from me here in Boston, so I see him all the time.
Not too many celebrities in my area, but I've been less than 100 ft away from Josh Duhamel, John Lee Hooker Jr, and Calista Flockart.
I've been kissed on the cheek by Richard Simmons (lol? or ew?), and I've met Scott Michael Foster and Michelle Rodriguez.
I worked at an event center during college and met Lance Armstrong (who was pretty rude) and Martina McBride (who was really down to earth!). It's interesting being around famous people and their entourage... those are the only 2 I've been in close contact with though!!
Just recently, I met three of the cast members from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" - Kaitlin Olson, Rob McElhenny, and Glenn Howerton (Charlie Day wasn't there, and he's my favorite - sob).
When I was in L.A. last year, I saw Pharrell Williams at a retaurant, and Scarlett Johannson with Ryan Reynolds at a party. My friends and I also had a very random and drunken conversation with Bill Maher at a bar.
I worked at a radio station in the 90's so I met a lot of musical artists. Some were huge, some were one hit wonders. Off the top of my head, I can remember Oasis, the Foo Fighters, Beck, Garbage, Tori Amos, Alanis Morrissette, The Afghan Whigs, Courtney Love, and a bunch of fairly unknown artists.
And I went to high school with Kelly Ripa. She was a senior when I was a freshman and we were in a play together.
Christina Ricci was my childhood babysitter. No kidding!! Also- I hated her. If only I had known about Mermaids and The Addams Family back then!
Also... I saw Yao Ming here once at St. Elmo's steakhouse. Was too nervous to speak. HE IS FREAKIN' TALL!
I sat next to joan cusack at a spa getting pedicures one time on vacation! Also meet Akon, and JoJo on the same vacation. Headed to a wedding in Nov. were some guests include quincy jones and the kardashians so that should be interesting!
A month or two ago I met Kellen Lutz (Emmett from Twilight) at a club in San Diego. My friends are part owners of the club so we hung out with him for almost 20 minutes. It was just me and my friend and him with his manager nearby. Pretty cool.
I danced with the tall skinny guy from Scream (and Shaggy from Scooby Doo) at a club in Palm Springs.
I'm totally not one to go up to celebrities so there are many more that I've seen than met...
I went to a movie when I was at UCLA and Nicole Kidman was in line if front of me. She is tiny (but tall).
I stayed at the same hotel at T.O. in Cabo. He was at the pool near us with his entourage.
Oh yea and I know Bobbi Brown (aka the owner of the make up company) she is VERY sweet and down to earth.
I've seen Brad Pitt (twice), Angelina Jolie, Ewan MacGregor, Joaquin Phoenix, Jennifer Connelly, Keira Knightly, James McAvoy, Jeremy Piven, Gerard Butler, Quentin Tarantino, Eli Roth, Will Ferrell, Adrian Brody, Mark Ruffalo, Julianne Moore, Michael Moore, The Coen Brothers, Sandra Oh, Geoffrey Rush, Jason Bateman, Paul Sorvino, Mira Sorvino, George Clooney, Bill Murray, Gael García Bernal, Danny Glover & Renee Zellweger.
But I work for a film distributor so I attend a lot of film events and festivals.
Out of those people, I've only spoken to a few of them. I accidentally body-checked Sandra Oh while I was trying to get out of a booth at a restaurant... I felt really bad but she was super nice about it. I saw Joaquin Phoenix at a party and against my better judgement approached him - I had loved him for so long I had to tell him that QUILLS was one of my favourite movies... he told me I had terrible taste because that movie was only about one person [him]... that kind of left a bad taste in my mouth (especially since I disagree wholeheartedly). I guess that's why they tell you to never meet your idols...
I met Sandra Bullock at a whole foods in Austin when I was in college. She was so nice!
@kjpugs - Christina Ricci was your childhood babysitter? Didn't she start filming movies when she was like, 10? Just wondering when she had time to moonlight as a babysitter between her film career? (This is a serious question, I'm not discounting what you are saying - I'm just a big fan and genuinely curious)
@ILuvDance17: I am so insanely jealous that you have met Hanson!! My sisters and I still love them and went to their concert this summer...but they wouldn't let anyone wait around the tour bus. And, yes I am 25 years old. haha.
I have met Steven Tyler from Aerosmith (he came into the restaurant I was working at), Paul Guilfoyle from CSI (He came into the fish market I was working at...and was kind of a snob. When we weren't like doting on him he decided the last thing he said would be "So, Do you watch CSI?". Like trying to get us to recognize him or something), this summer I met the Eli Young Band (and they were AWESOME...so nice!).
I have also met a few WWE wrestlers because FI used to wrestle.
I went to middle school with Michelle Williams litte sister and went to their house a few times before her career really took off (although, she was the kid in Species when I went to the same school as her...we had pictures of her on set in our yearbook.)
I lost touch with them though...
Oh, and my gym manager is an Ex - WWE wrestler - Rory McAlister - the Scotsmen.
I met Nicky Hilton. Well kinda. All she did was smile and say hi. She was at a Macy's in new york. i had NO idea she was standing next to me. Seriously. Then i looked to my left and Aha she was about a foot away from me. Also a couple people from "Real world" came to a bar in my city. They're not really considered celebrities though lol Also when i was visiting new york I saw Pam Anderson. Big boobs and all.
EDIT: btw who is david tutera? am i the only person who doesnt know this lol
Ozzy osborne bought me ice cream as a teenager. Leon Spinxs (heavy weight champ that beat ali) used to stop by my bar every few weeks. Bob gibson still comes in ( baseball hall of famer). Warrenn Buffet and Bill Gates were regular customers. Tons of sport stars used to come to a bar I worked at in college. Bruce "the mouse" strouse is a really good friend of my FH. Partied with REM in college. Chris Ledoux and I were doing shots together before his show. So many music acts I can't even count (an ex boyfriend was a traveling sound man for major country acts). Every President since Reagan. Collin Powel, Sean Hannity, Karl Rove, george stephanopolis, Capt Scott Ogrady, the Baldwin Brothers.
I have met so many national politicians that to list them all would take up several pages.
Also, everytime they are filming a movie in nebraska they stay in omaha. Some how they all seem to wander into where I work.
