Ok. So I am thinking about getting square vases and putting the gem stone things in them...like in fish tanks or whatever.  a vase like this: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/86933500

Ok, maybe that's rectangle, whatever, something along those lines.  Then I do not know if I want to put flowers in them, or a candle.

I also have another idea.  Take a glass plate and put the stones on it, and then a candle, I really like these ideas, but after my MOH and I got talking about it, we dont know if the plate with stones and candle would be too much of a beach theme, which is not what we are doing.

If you have any questions, please ask, becase I understand this might not be clear. And what do you guys think. Do you guys think it would be too beachy, and which one sounds better, etc.  Load me up with opinions!!

i like the first idea...the plate w/stones wouldn't be beachy to me, but more "zen" feeling

my mom and i are making our own. and we're putting one round wide about 1ft tall vase on the table, then we're adding seeglass (which is really pretty frosted glass) we're submerging a flower not sure which kind yet, then 2 or 3 floating candles on top.

you can make your own see glass from old dishes (you buy a cheap tumbler for like 30$ and we're using purple/blue/clear glass!

I stole this from an old thread:

Centerpeice opinions--please! : wedding centerpieces vases stones flowers candles reception 11361.white Lily In Cylinder Vase.jpg

    http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/diy-centerpiece-candles-nonfloral-budget-ideas

I hope the person that originally posted their idea doesn't mind? But this is exactly what I thought of when you said rectangular vase in one idea, and river rocks in the other idea. What about combining? To me this doesn't look too beachy it looks hip/elegant. But that's just MHO.

Also that thread looks like it has some really good DIYs in it.

I googled these. They look similar to what you described and look really simple to make.

@rmw...are you planning on using silk flowers? I think it will be nice without water but live flowers may wilt during the reception...especially with candles.

are you against using some shells?  that would be more beachy, or some driftwood perhaps?

Correct, I am not going to use real flowers, and I am not going for beachy.  So I probably would be against shells.  Thanks for your input, I greatly appreciate it!

I'm not a fan of those marble rock things, I prefer real rocks or no rocks at all. I'm bummed you don't want water because I love these.

I guess I'm not against water, I just never had the idea on the table, it wasn't an option. Sorry to disappoint.
