What about books? You can start collecting them, then stack them on the tables and use some battery tea-lights to add ambiance, then add just a few succulets (flowers that are made for water/low maintenance) here and there. PLUS most libraries give away books when they have anual sales and thrift stores are great place too.
Do you have any wholesale florists near you? We are doing our own flowers and found a shop that sells flowers at market price, rather than upcharging for stems

And you can always go to Goodwills or anything like that to find some great old books for cheap!
What about tall vases with a submerged flower (orchid?) with a submersible light in it!
You could also do vases or wine bottles with battery operated candles.

You could always buy art pieces at art shows this spring and summer and use those as your centerpieces. Then you can use them to decorate your house.
@tksjewelry: I was thinking that too.... or some kind of crazy vases all different sizes as centerpieces. (You wouldn't have to put flowers in them or anything...)

Hey Bees! I desperately need some help with my reception centerpieces. We are getting married at an art gallery/center and are not allowed to have real candles and I'm not crazy about spending tons of moolah on lots of flowers. I am out of ideas for centerpieces, HELP!
