    Hi bees,

I desperately need help for my centerpieces!  I am having my wedding in a hotel ballroom and it is a pretty large guest list (360 invited).  The table linens will all be black, and the chair covers will be black with purple sashes (not bows, the purple will be somewhere between violet and eggplant).  The napkins will be purple and folded on the ivory dishes with my white and damask menu tucked inside.  We will also have purple uplighting around the room.  Now- as for centerpieces...
I met with my florist yesterday and he doesn't think he can find a flower in the right  color purple, except for stock flowers.  Which look like:

I was looking for something like this for my centerpieces, but in purple:

My florist thinks he can get the stock flowers to sit almost like a ball of carnations would within the tall and short square vases, so that it would like similar to the photos above.  But, I'm skeptical that it will look as nice.  I'm a little tempted to just throw out the purple centerpiece alltogether and go for white carnations or roses as they show in the picture.  Maybe adding a purple LED light in with the vase??  That may brighten the room a little as well....

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I have a terrible time visualizing things, but your plan for the purple led light in the vase with the white carnations sounds lovely

Yea, stock flowers seem more country and less sleek elegance to me.

What about dyed roses or carnations? Can't you get those in basically any color you want?

With all that black and purple though, it might make things less depressing to have a bit of lightness in the flowers.

Wow...your whole decor sounds lovely! When I visualize it in my head...I think white carnations withe purple LED lights in the vase would be the best! I think having the white carnations as centerpieces would let them stand out & show how beautiful they are...plus having the purple LED lights in the vase would make them pop out even more! I love your centerpiece idea!

Can you get the florist to make you a mockup of the stock centerpiece so you can see what it would look like? That would be my first response.

My overall first choice would be the white carnations/roses with the purple LED light. I think that will give you the elegant look you want.

    Hi there,

I'm a floral designer and there are some pretty fantastic shades of purple carnations in what they call the "moonseries", and one specific dark purple carnation available.    They are double the price of regular carnations however :S.

If the dark purple carns aren't possible I would say to stick with the white ones.   If you have purple uplights they will show up a shade of purple anyways and is always nice to add a bit of a contrast against the black table linens and purple sashes.

I wouldn't suggest using stock to create the ball look as they are line flowers rather than mass flowers, and wouldn't create the roundness like the carnations do.

However, the stock would look beautiful in a low clear cubed vase.

Goodluck figuring your decor out :)

I say go for the led light in the centerpeice and then use light coloured carnations. It would be good to break it up a little so it isnt too purple/black.
