I think the first one souds like a nice combo of most your ideas...
Pics got chopped off the post for some reason, I'll try and edit them back in. Sorry.
HERE ARE THE PICS! (in order...)

Small flower arrangement on books with mason jar candle

Two flower arrangements with stack of books (with colored ribbon around book stack)

Small flower arrangement on books with wine glass candle

Two flower arrangements with candy dish (would be green/blue candy)

I like the flowers/book/candy dish combo but the mason jars look good too. Just depends on the feel that you're going for I guess. Any of them would work really well though. One thing to note, you shouldn't light candles in vintage mason jars. If I remember correctly, the irregularities in the glass can cause the jar to crack or explode when heated! Modern ones are safe though. If you really want that blue tint one of the Bees did a tutorial on how to make clear jars look blue.
And they all really do look fine. Whatever you go with will look fantastic.
ETA: This isn't the post I was thinking of...but Bear Cub mentions it in this one.
#1 without the mason jar and more tealights. the jar is too much and overpowers the small and simple arrangements.
@ caitlanc: I did know about the old mason jar cautions. The blue one was just one I happened to have handy. My step-mom has modern clear ones that we would use. I was thinking we could put some glass green stones in the bottom, or I saw an example that used split peas once as a base in the jar. Then we would tie a blue ribbon just under the mouth of the jar to tie it together.
As far as the book stack by itself, I don't know what color ribbon with would use, but it would be a simple, once-around, bow-tie job, I think.
finding myself drawn to #2 and #3. not a big fan of the mason jar, for some reason.
#1. I like the look of the books with the mason jar... gives it a vintage feel. :)
I love them but would like to add this.
The arrangement imho needs some height. And what I'd do is add in one taller glass candlestick and a taper candle to give it that height. I love candles of varying heights in arrangements.
It would look great with #3.
Here's something else that might inspire you too!
And another with books! see how they incorporated some height and larger candles into basically what is your centerpiece?
@ bellenga: OOOOOH! I actually like the "Chapter" table numbers best out of that group! But I do like the pillar candle ideas too. My thing is, I'd like to keep the arrangement low so people can talk over it. But I'm trying to get a little bit of levels with the books. As far as the pillar candles, any suggestions for uber-cheap candle holders? And would you suggest wrought iron like in the third pic you posted or another idea?
I originally had pillar candles in my design, but it got removed when I changed from glass vases to the blue/green ones above. The vases above were just too good of a deal to not use. We got those vases at a floral wholesaler for $1.25/ea for the big ones and $0.65/ea for the little ones. Seriously, you couldn't find vases for that anywhere.
In light of the post-a-thon tonight, I wanted to bump this up and get a few more opinions on the mockups.
FI is a big fan of the third one with the wine glass as a candle holder. Any bees who haven't chirpped in?
Small flower arrangement on book stack with candy dish
I like that one the best... it looks the most balanced
I'm a fan of the wineglass one too, really the only one I don't like that much is the first one. I love mason jars (used them as one of my centerpieces) but it just doesn't seem right height wise.
I do agree with Bellenga that using just a tall tapered candle could add some interesting height.
Hey bees, what do you think of this idea? I still need to make a mock up, but I found a few ideas. Mason jar, wrapped in fabric/ribbon and possibly a painted/stenciled number on the fabric wrap. Green/aqua/blue fabric around the jar and black or white numbers. Here's where I got the idea:
I found today a bunch of really large (1 gallon) size mason jars in my parents' basement. I was thinking I could use those in place of the blue one up top, and then have them double as numbers.
I really love the one with the books and the wine glass, it looks sweet, unique and classy, and personalised. I prefer glass to wrought iron candle holders.
I like #1 the best, but candles in a blue ball mason jar is a no no, unfortunately. From what I've heard they have a penchant for spontaneously exploding from the heat!

Okay, so I took some suggestions and added a few elements to our centerpiece mock ups. Which set up do you like best?
I tried the open book number idea that was suggested, but the book open is just too big.
