I really love those centerpieces that are flowers submerged in water, but I wanted to find out if anyone had an idea about the cost for them. I just want to have an idea before I go talk to florists!

i really love them as well, so I asked about them when I went to the florist.  i thought they would be a beautiful yet great way to save on flowers, but it ended up costing almost as much as a regular centerpiece, since we had to rent all the vases.  Plus, there was the extra hassel of having to return all the vases in perfect condition and telling guests that they wouldn't be able to take the centerpieces home.

I also love the flowers submerged in water and plan to use them as centerpieces. I got the idea from the knot.com and have been researching for many months on how I can make that happen. If you are up to it, I believe you can honestly do those centerpieces yourself (well, not all by yourself, but with the help of some other hands)

For my centerpieces, I plan to use 3 cylinder vases of varying heights, filled with water and a few of some kind of floating flowers(probably hydrangeas) with a floating candle on the top. The vases will be sitting atop a glass mirror, and on the mirror will be scattered petals (probably roses) and some votive candles. Pretty and not that expensive.

I don't know where you live, but I live in Los Angeles, and we have a huge flower district downtown that sells just about any flower you can imagine for wholesale prices. You don't need bundles and bundles of flowers for these type of centerpieces, so you should check where you can get flowers for wholesale. If you don't have a flowermart where you are, consider ordering them online:onlinewholesaleflowers.com, or americanfloraldistributers.com.

As for the vases, I plan to order mine from sav-on-crafts.com. They sell in bulk, and the more you buy, the cheaper they are. They have every kind of glass vase in every shape and size you can think of and almost all of the vases are between $1.99-6.99. I highly recommend you check out the website. Since you own the vases, you can decide what to do with them afterwards (give them to your guests or whatever).  I hope this helps.Centerpieces : wedding Icon Biggrin

What about having your florist do the design, but supplying them with vases that you purchase?  I'm sure this would be much cheaper than renting from your florist (and as mlindsey points out, sav-on-crafts.com seems to be an affordable option), it would create the look that you're looking for, and you could sell the vases afterwards!  If you're set on having a florist do the design but are concerned about the cost, I'd definitely ask them about supplying your own vases.  Good luck!

I have so many cylinders left over in 3 different sizes from my wedding.  I usually rent these out to other brides.  I live in Philly, so if you're close by, you're more than welcome to stop by to use them. (I also got them at saveoncrafts.)

Just FYI - I just looked at their site and it looks like sav-on-crafts/sav-on-closeouts.com is low on vases at the moment.
