We are doing York Peppermint Patties in our OOT bags. You could do anything Hershey's. There is also Snyders pretzels (Hanover) and Stauffers animal crackers (York).
Um, Middleswarth BBQ chips. What Central PA'er doesn't miss the heck out of them when they move away?! I'm from Harrisburg btw, but we're having our wedding in NYC (FI's hometown). Nice to see some fellow Central PA members!
I used to live in Lititz, PA a few years ago, so I was thinking about incorporating Wilbur Buds in some way.
I know they have it in a lot of places, but I always think of home when I see Yuengling!
We didn't have any OOT bags. But I live in South-central PA. About 30 miles north of Harrisburg and I teach at the Hbg. HACC campus.
It's great to see a few gals from Central PA on here! It seems like the Central PA wedding world doesn't know of weddingbee. :o(
@Amaryllis: good call on the Yuengling! ;o)
we're doing whoopie pies. We live in Centre County and Burkholders in Millheim has a great bakery.
We're getting married in Carlisle in June. I was actually just thinking about the same subject! My family is all from out of town, so we didn't want to over do the OOT bags because of the expense! We were thinking of just putting a couple of Hershey's bars tied with ribbon on top of a packet of information on the local things to do.
If money was no object, I'd do Scrapple wine from Adams County Winery (but I'd have to probably explain it)! =)
Thanks for this post! Yeay Central PA brides!!! =)
Snickerdoodle candles from the candle company in Huntingdon, PA. Yum to the Middleswarth chips! I love those, and you can't get them everywhere! Gardner's chocolates and Amish made whoopie pies! Penn State magnets and little trinkets from the local historical society! You could even include a Mead plant notepade made in Alexandria, PA!
Yay! So excited I found you fellow central Pa bees! I agree about the middlesworth, I lived in northern Pa for a year or so and everytime my mom and dad would come to visit they would bring me one of the big barrels! I'm from Clearfield so all of our oot guest are looking forward to going to dennys beer barrel pub to try and eat their world famous big burgers! We are including wine from the local wineries and gardners peanut butter meltaways, and our favorite utz varieties, and we are semi close to st.marys pa so Straub for everyone!
Also, mini shoo-fly pies from Amish or Mennonite sellers at the Middletown Saturday's Flea Market. Delicious.
OMG! Where have all of you been? I was starting to think I was the only Central Pa Bride.
Haha I agree that you can do Hershey. I live like 25 mins from Hershey Park. I also agree that you can do Wilbur's Chocolate in Lititz, PA. I love their chocolate, and I have been to Julius Sturgis Pretzel too which is also in Lititiz. I don't know if you can do anythign with those though for OOT bags, but I love making my own pretzels there, haha.
Amaryllis - my dad lives in Minersville right next to Pottsville where they make Yuengling (I'm sure you already knew that, haha.)
Woot Woot! I thought Sushi and I were the only Central PA girls! Wish we could have met you all when we did a meet up at Houlihans in Hershey!!!
Loving the Middlesworth BBQ chip idea. Also, Mrs. Starfish did a post awhile ago about cookies shaped like a state. I bought a California cookie cutter, but I didn't end up using it. A cookie in the shape of PA with a hot heart or something marking Carlisle would be cute. I'll look for the link to the cutters...

barrettes- I love Houlihans! I'm sad I missed that!
We got married in NC so I'm not much help with PA wedding planning, but almost every snack product you find in stores is from PA...Herr's, Snyder's, Hershey, Turkey Hill, Martin's Potato Chips, Jullius Sturgis pretzels, Utz snacks, the Stauffer Biscuit Company, Wolfgang candies, among the others mentioned above. Seriously next time your in the store just turn over the package and see where it was made. You'll be amazed at the amount that came from PA.
@tugs: LOVE wilbur chocolate. I'm from Manheim so right down the street from Wilburs.
@barrettes: I saw the meet-up, but I had to work, sadly =( I do vote for another meet-up though!!
I love Houlihans, too, but those Martini flights are deadly! You drink them sitting down and it's not until you stand up that you realize what you've done. . .
cute idea w/STRAUB's beer. i went to a wedding in NC last fall and the bride got a case of straubs for a wedding gift!!! she loved it and was missing home so much. i am 20 miles from straubs brewery.

Hi fellow bees! I'm getting married in Carlisle in August 2011. This board seemed like it could use some pep - I'm sure there are lots of us out there! So to get us started, does anyone have any recommendations for central PA OOT bags? What do you all love about the area? I'm considering an apple (from Adams County), but need more suggestions. Thanks!
