I have only attended two weddings where the ceremony was held at the venue. My fiance and I will be doing this as well. I was wondering if it would be weird to ask one or two people to read during the ceremony? Is it weird because it is not in a church? Is it okay because it is our wedding and we can do it how we want? haha. Give me your opinions!!! We want the ceremony to be about 20-30 minutes and there are two sonnets (Shakespeare & Elizabeth Barrett Browning) I think would be beautiful to hear during our ceremony.

I dont think it would be strange at all. We’re having two readings and our wedding is in a bar! I’ve definitely been to non-church weddings where there were readings, both religous and non. Go for it!

- Wedding: March 2012 - Pelican Grand Beach Resort
We had our ceremony on the beach and still had readings. A friend got married in a theater and had (a lot in mutliple languages) readings. There’s no rule that readings are only for churches.
