I like the idea, but I would use some taller flowers and have them in differing lengths to get a more dimensional effect. I would also, if possible use a clear or more opaque vase. The vase you are using draws too much attention to itself, but that is just my opinion.
When I think of curly willow and wine cellars I don't think of daisy's. So i vote no flowers. But perhaps something different and I'd be game for it. But either way is not Christmasy to me.
Could you add flowers to the branches themselves? I think that would totally help!!!
Also, my friend got married in the barrel room at a winery YESTERDAY! It was absolutely gorgeous! And very dark. Make sure your photographer is expecting it.

They rented an arch and decorated it themselves...
Oh, I should add that the flowers could be anything off-white. We bought cheap ones just to see the effect. My preference would be ivory roses.
I like KMSull's idea of attaching flowers to the branches, but I've only seen that done with orchids and those would be out of my price range. Has anyone seen it done with other flowers?
So, I showed the pics to my DOC and she says they look totally Christmasy and I should basically dump the whole thing and start from scratch. That would be great except I already own the red vases and really, really, really don't want to have to buy new silver ones.
Help!!
i don't think your idea is christmasy at all.. i'd definitely do some faux orchids throughout to give it a less christmasy look and add some crystals.. something like this... what does she suggest in place of using these?
just read your other post and roses can definitely be hung as well as gerbera daisies... (i have no idea why everything is so big)

Those are pretty, crebre (though I always think of you as "Diva," like your avatar.) She suggested silver vases, brown twigs and more florals. The problem is that I already own the red vases and silver sticks. So, all of that is more money, especially the flowers. New sticks I could live with, but the point of the silver ones is to contrast with the brown barrels and dark colors in the barrel room at the winery. I don't know what to do. I'm out of ideas of my own. I like the orchids (or other hanging/suspended flower) and the crystals though.
no i don't think you need to purchase more vases... ( lol about calling me diva, everyone does...) why not spray the sticks black? ahhhh wait i see what you mean about having them contrast.... they would look really cool in white as well though... what types of florals do you have around the base of the flowers? what if you sort of bunched them up (use floral foam) around the base and then hung the same flowers form the branches?
Honestly, I forget what kind of flowers they were. I got whatever was off-white and cheap at the grocery store. Up close, they pretty much look like mums. They seemed fairly sturdy, like they won't wither if they don't have water for a few hours.
I plan to order the bouquets and bouts from Costco, so there isn't a florist involved. Whatever I figure out will need to be DIY.
I like your idea though, I think I could manage that. Maybe another practice run might be helpful.
Adding flowers like crebre said doesn't have to be too expensive. Find small white or ivory flowers in the discounted section at Michael's, specially after Christmas. Also, for a small variation, when you're doing a second trial, try it with less branches and see how you like it. Good luck.
michaels also has these flower thingies with great crystals on them that you could cut off.. make sure you go to michael's when they have their 40% off specials...
We are date twins! I did the same sort of thing
mine are branches from the woods
white xmas lights (50 per strand)
and flowers from the dollar store. they go in a little stand that i made and they light up.
this is an old cellphone pic but i hope you get the idea.
I like it!! You can add flowers on the branches like in this picture. I love orchids :)

FI and I are getting married in the barrel room of a winery, so there is no real "altar." We need some decor to dress up the ceremony area. Our colors are red, silver and ivory. Below are some pics of the arrangements we have devised for the ceremony. Each will sit either on a 30" pedestal or a wine barrel of about the same height. The whole thing would then be about 7 feet tall.
What do you think? With or without flowers? Is it too Christmasy? Or is it just that it is Christmas time right now so that's what I think of? I don't know how to make it look less Christmasy given our colors. I am hoping that it won't look that way in the context of the winery and the wedding setting. Our wedding is March 20th. It is the first day of spring, so I was going for a look that signifies the transition from winter to spring, hence the addition of the flowers. I'm not sure it comes off that way though.
