So, we're getting married at a restored historic mansion.  There are a few rooms to choose from for the ceremony, we're trying to decide which to use! I love the idea of walking down a traditional aisle, but I also like the staircase entrance!  For background, we're having a small, intimate wedding (approx. 50 guests), no bridal party.

    Option #1 - Staircase

I would walk down from the top of the staircase (there's a beautiful stained glass window at the top, which you can't see that well in the pic).  I'd meet FI on the bottom steps and we'd hold the ceremony there.  So I'd be walking down the steps and meeting him at the bottom instead of walking up a traditional aisle... table and chairs would be moved out of the room. (room is a lot bigger than it looks)

    Option #2 - Parlor

In the parlor, I'd walk through the back door of the room (you can actually see the door in the staircase picture, it's on the left), and walk up a traditional aisle and meet FI at the front of the room.

    Front of parlor

    Back of parlor

I'd love to hear other Bees opinions!!!

I would vote staircase...as long as you are 100% confident that you will not loose your shit, tumble down the stairs and become bridal roadkill.

@Nona99:  Haha, I've thought about that!  I'm wearing flats, and I'll be able to hang onto the railing on one side and my brother (he's walking me down the aisle) on the other side.

I love the staircase, but I would've fallen down it if it was my wedding.

The staircase but I would fall. Looking at it, I would move the pic of whatever President that is because it would be in your photos.

I fell down three steps in front of the whole congregation when I was an acolyte at church.

I think the staircase and whole area is much more picturesque for a wedding with the columns, lighting, stained glass than the parlour.  Please dont fall!

Thanks, everyone!  I really like the idea of the staircase too, I'll just have to figure out some of the logistics of not walking down a typical aisle....

@Pamelor55:  I'll definitely be moving the picture!  The picture is actually of one of Maine's old governors... he built the mansion for his family to live in or something... Pretty neat but I really don't want him staring at us in our wedding pics!

Sorry, too busy drooling over those rooms. What was the question? Just kidding, I honestly can't decide. I was going to say staircase, but then I saw the back of the second room and, well, they're both toooo gorgeous. I cannot choose! Whichever you go with will be amazing.

I would NOT do the staircase.  You don't want to trip down the stairs and, I don't know how much you'd like your pictures if they all show you clinging for dear life onto the railing.  This may be just me, but I might regret later on not having that traditional walk down the aisle where I'm passing by all of my friends and family along the way.

I voted staircase - is there a reason you have to get married at the bottom of the staircase - you and fiance can't stand at the other end of the room? So then you would wakl down the staircase, meet your brother at the bottom and have him walk you down a traditional aisle to the other end of the room?

@slombard87:  I vote staircase! Better photo opportunities there and you can decorate the banister and sides of the steps, leaving plenty of room for you to walk down of course.

How many people get the opportunity to make their grand entrance on a staircase? I'm actually pretty jealous right now. If you don't have a reception space already, the parlor would be great for that.

@slombard87:  I'd choose the parlor. Even if you're wearing flats, you'd probably be looking down to watch your step! I'd hate to miss the look on my groom's face or have few good photos from that moment.

@somethingaquamarine:  I concur. As much as I love the staircase, I think that it would be very difficult to avoid instinctively looking down as you walk down the stairs. I think the parlor would be best.

@JulietFoxtrot:  Oh, and will those lights still be on the staircase railing when you get married?  They're gorgeous, but if they're wrapped around the railing (which they appear to be from the photo) then I would imagine that you wouldn't really be able to use the railing for balance as you walk down the stairs?

Thank you so much for your opinions!  I can totally understand the "i'm going to trip and fall on my face thing", because that has absolutely crossed my mind, but I definitely think I need to incorporate the staircase in some way, since it's so gorgeous!

@Sea_Ashley:  This is a great idea!  For some reason I had never thought of walking down the stairs and to the other side of the room down an aislehaha.  I'll have to take a look at what the other side of the room looks like, I can't quite remember off the top of my head, but I think it's pretty plain so I could dress it up and still have the staircase and the aisle...

@JulietFoxtrot:  I can remove the lights.  In the pic, the railing had lights and garland wrapped around it for the holidays.  I like the lights, but I think it might make sense to remove them so that I'd have a better grip!  I could replace the lights with some ribbon or something...
