Hello! This is my first time posting on the boards! I’ve been a lurker and have learned alot from everyone’s posts! Now I’m the one who needs help! I’m trying to pick out my ceremony music. I have already hired a violin/guitar duo for my ceremony. The violiniest is someone I used to perform with when I played the flute at weddings! So it will be a good time. However I’m at a loss as what music I want played. I have a CD full of wedding standards, like Canon in D and Jesu, which I love and will use. However I want to have something more contemporary that will sound good performed by a violin/guitar duo. Any recommendations?? I would be very appreciative!!

I am a flautist and have played at MANY weddings. I suggest that you contact a guitar/violin duo and ask them for suggestions. Musicians always have lots in their selection of repertoire. For a fee they would probably even play through some pieces for you. I once arranged Pachabel’s Canon for a bride and when we did the practice run-through for her she cried. It was so cute.
Also, see if your musicians would orchestrate a favorite piece. You can often get pieces arranged for piano at your local sheet music store. These can easily be arranged into whatever combination of instruments you’d like! Might I recommend that a flute and guitar duo is quite lovely and the sound of a flute carries much nicer and further than a violin. But I’m biased 😛
