I haven't put this much thought into it yet, so I'm interested in the replies here, too!
I plan on using doing the same thing but I honestly hadn't thought about how until I saw your post. I just tried out my Philips 2.1 speakers with my Zune I think it'll be plently loud enough. My speakers have a volume control along with the volume on my Zune, I'm going to have to turn it down a bit actually. All I'll have to do that day is hook up the Zune to the speakers/subwoofer and plug in. If that's not enough sound we have a larger system that's at my FI's that's a 5.1. My FI is a big believer in good speakers lol! We have about 3 systems and probably 4 sets of speakers which I plan on also using one for the reception as well.
I recommend something that has a volume control so you can always make it louder than just what your mp3 player will allow. And an auxillary hook up, so all you will have to do is plug into the headset hookup on the mp3. Also, before you buy, check if you have any friends that will allow you to borrow some speakers.
Here's the speakers I have
Philips MMS171 2.1
& other is a Samsung similar to this one
you can rent portable PA systems that can have mp3 players plugged into them....im renting mine for $70
I've read excellent things on the bee about the ion portable PA system. It has an ipod dock and a micorphone. At $130, you could use it again!.
Definately go talk to a production company and tell them you want to rent a sound system. It's cheap - I have less than $100 budgeted for it. They should be able to give you an MP3 plug in.

Hello Bees,
I, like many of us, am on a tight budget for my February wedding. As a means to save money, my FH and I have decided to make our own MP3 playlist and use that as our ceremony music. At first this seemed like a great idea, but now I'm wondering, how do I amplify the music?
I am literally looking into spending as little money as possible without sacrificing volume or fullness of sound.
My options seem to be:
1.) Get a regular old boom box to hook up to the MP3 player, put it in the back of the church and hope that the sound carries....and sounds full enough.
2.) Buy some kind of wireless surround sound system, plant speakers everywhere and have the mp3 player hooked up to the main speaker. I think this would give us good sound, but I'm worried about the range of the speakers....
3.) Get a bluetooth speaker system (which would allow me to put the speakers closer to the guests) without worrying about wires and plugs...but the downside is someone elses bluetooth might interfere.
Does anyone know of any good systems? Has anyone else had a similar situation?
I'm looking foward to any suggestions! :)
