We are getting married in a Lutheran church. However, do our readings have to be from the bible? Is it weird if they’re not? I have a huge family and it seems like all of the common verses used for weddings have been used. I found some cute readings that aren’t from the bible. Would this be weird? I just know that the church usually incorporates the reading into the sermon and mine readings probably would seem like random little stories… Opinions?

We got married in a Presbyterian church and had two scripture readings and a poem. Our paster basically expected that we would have some scripture readings but we were free to incorporate other things as well.
Many churches have some expectations as to what is included in their wedding ceremonies. You may want to check what, if anything, your church expects. But I’d think you could certainly include some non-biblical readings along with scripture if they do have similar expectations to my church.
