If you start your ceremont at 6:30, your reception would be mostly over by the time the ball dropped, and everyone would start to depart around 12:30, which would be perfect for guests that aren't night owls.
That's also contingent upon a ceremony that's not longer than 30-60 mins, and a cocktail hour that starts right at 7:30 p.m., with a four-hour reception.
Are you taking pictures before/after the ceremony? If you are doing pictures after the ceremony, then you might want to start a little early (5:00 PM or earlier).

FI's parents are generously paying for all of our ceremony expenses, and we need to fill out a form with the deposit she has sent in. We hadn't thought too much about the times, but we only get the ceremony site for a 3 hour time block.
What time should our ceremony be? We are having our reception directly across the street, so there is no travel time for our guests. We want to stay past midnight to watch the ball drop, etc.
Any suggestions?
