If you're using a rental company to provide other set-up items for the ceremony, then they should be able to rent some to you.
If you are DIYing it, market umbrella's can be found for under $50 each at many places...Cost Plus World Market, ACE Hardware, Home Depot, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Big Lots, etc. The trick is that you usually have to buy a heavy metal base to stick the umbrella in, which will add $20-$30 per base.
There is a very wide price range for market umbrellas, they can go upwards of $500 each. Since it's a one-time use to provide shade, just go with the cheaper ones and you can always gift them to family or friends afterwards.
I rented 8 foot market umbrellas from the same place I got my chairs and they were $21.75 + tax each. Not sure if that's a great price but it was from Arcadia Party Rentals.

Help! Does anyone know where I can rent inexpensive ceremony umbrellas in Los Angeles that will shade all of my guests during our hot August wedding. I don't know what they're called but they're basically those big patio umbrellas. I'm on a tight budget and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
