Do you think chair covers or chivari chairs look better?

My reception hall provides us with the ugly banquet chairs. They have chair covers and bows for $8 a chair. My other option would be to rent chivari chairs. I have found them for about $12 a chair. Do you think the price difference is worth it?

I wanted chivari chairs, but the place that my reception hall contracts with doesn't have them in white so should I keep searching or will the chair covers be okay?

Did you want white?  If that's the color you're going for, I'd go with the chair covers.  I think they look nice.  Can you order chair covers and ties from a different company, or do you have to go through your venue?  I know ours cost $3.50 a chair for cover and tie including set up (that was through an outside company).

personally, i think chivari chairs look way better, but when it comes down to it, it's just a chair. i could never see myself spending that much money on chairs, when people will be sitting in them and they probably wont even notice.

luckily we're outside so we can go with wood chairs, which are cheaper than having to rent a chair and a cover.

It really depends on the look you're trying to acheive.  If it NEEDS the chivari chairs, and it's worth the cost increase (and you can fit it in the budget) then go for it.  If not, chair covers are perfectly fine.

I've realized that things like the kind of chairs, or chair covers only matter to us brides!  Smile  It's not like someone will walk away saying "Well, the wedding and reception were great, but she had chair covers!  Can you imagine!".  I had never even heard of chivari chairs until I started planning my wedding!

@Blueshoes2- Yes, I will be going with white. Unfortunately the reception venue won't allow you to bring in another company for chair covers and linens, since they supply everything as an upgrade we have to go with them.

@artbee- It's an extra 1,000 dollars. And I have a 100 other things to focus on and spend money on. I just don't know if I can or want to justify it.

@candynee- So true. I never went to a wedding and talked about someone's chairs. As brides I think we get hung up on all the little things.

This is the room with the chair covers.

In the long run its one of those things - do you think your guests will make mental note of the chairs!!!!!  While yes we would all love to have the chairs we prefer, I think you should go with whats going to save you $$$

for a reception i think you would be suprised how little you even notice the chairs once everyone is sat down.... I dunno i would go with whatever would save me money. What do the chairs look like without covers?

I personally think the prices you quoted seem very high... but i also live a little small town

I love chivari chairs.  I was thrilled that they came standard with our venue but if they hadn't, I would of just gotten the chair covers.  I'm definitely all for covering the conference chairs.  But, I don't know that I would spend the extra $4 it would be for the chivari's.  That will certainly add up!  I think the chair covers are festive and very wedding-y.  I'd go with that unless you have money to burn.  Oh, and to be honest, I've been to a LOT of weddings, and I don't remember what kinda chair I sat in at any of them.

I think the image you showed of the venue with the chair covers looks lovely. Save the extra cash and spend it on something on your honeymoon :)

Okay, I LOVE Chiavari chairs, but the $4/chair price increase isn't worth it imo.  Your reception will still look totally gorgeous with the covers.

I've never been a fan of chair covers; the whole look is too heavy and fussy for me. No offense to anyone who's having them at their wedding, it's just not my taste for my own. I'd prefer the Chiavari chairs.

But I'm also cheap. ;) How ugly are the chairs as-is? Do you have a photo? Maybe you can save all the money and just go with their regular chairs.

We're doing Chivalri chairs with sashes on each.

I have to second danadelphia in saying that I think chair covers have it in them to look overdone, but I really think it depends on how many chairs you have and how big the space is. If there are a bunch of them really close together I think it looks overwhelming, but if they're more spaced out I think it can look really tasteful.

Btw, where are you located?  I've seen chiavari chairs rent for as low as $4/chair.

I love the look of chivari chairs, but I have to admit that I can't remember what any of the chairs looked like at the 12 weddings I've been to.  I say go with what will save you money.

I say go with the chair covers and spend the G on something else! Chiavari chairs are beautiful, but I don't think they're worth the additional price.

If it were me, Id go for the chiavari chairs and I did for my wedding.  I knew I wanted them before I even started planning and I put it in my budget to make sure I was able to.  If you have the money in your budget and if its what you want, go for it.  If you cant justify spending that much money, go for the chair covers.

Oh Chivari chairs are a must. IMO much more classy than chair covers. And I think they really add to the look and feel of the venue.

But I can tell you the standard rate for chivari chairs is $7-9 from MN to CA. Try to find a different rental company in your area.

Although Chivari chairs are very elegant. I think that chair covers are more comfortable for some reason. They pull the whole reception venue look together.

Chair covers vs. Chivari chairs is a decision only a Bee would ever rack her brain over!!  I skimped in a few areas but decor was the one thing I wanted to put a lot of attention to.  I had already decided on nice linens, satin napkins, painted charger plates, etc. gold chivari chairs were just a better match to the formality table setting.  Definitely ask around to get a better quote on chairs if you can.  And if you can rent them without breaking the budget, go for it!  I think it is one of those small elements that add a midas touch to an already elegant room.  But that said, everyone is right--no one will notice.  The kind of chairs you end up with will not make or break the experience for you or your guests!

Argh, this one is such a tough call! I'm going through the same thing!! I want Chivari's sooo bad but like you said, an extra grand for 'em is a tough call...Personally, I do think they enhance the look of the venue but for me, it's not worth the extra money.  So I guess my vote is for the chair covers unless you can afford the Chivari's...But I totally feel your pain on this decision!

Hands down chivari chairs. Personally, with chair covers I think it looks like you are trying to hide something. If you're concerned, just leave the chairs bare and they will fade into their surroundings. Placing big white covers on them only accentuates them.

I would also vote chivari chairs... but that is a lot of money.  i'm going back and forth seeing if my budget can afford them.

I will have to go with chivari chairs, but honestly i debated this a lot and decided it was not worth the money...

So, if you can afford them, then yes go for it, but if not then spend your money in something your guest will remember (food, drinks,..)..

By the way, where are you located? In TX, chivari chair are $8.00 and chair cover with sash ~$1.50-3.00 depending on the fabric...

I'm in Boston. Everything seems more expensive here than other parts of the country just based on what people discuss on the boards.

Oh and btw I was at Walmart yesterday looking at wedding magazine and all the reception decor had chivari chairs. They did look quite elegant. Does your venue come with chivari chairs or do you have to rent them out?
