What is your venue like? Is there room to provide lots of chairs, and what would that do to the setup? I definitely think you need at least some chairs if you have any elderly people there, since its so long.

I never thought of this. We are just having high top tables I think.

For a cocktail period that long, I would really recommend getting a decent number of chairs, maybe enough for 50% of your guests to sit at any time. I know I dislike standing around in heels for that long.

See if you can organize the chairs into something other than 8-tops. Maybe do 4-tops or lounge-type furniture, if it is in your budget?

We rented some lounge furniture/leather benches for our cocktail hour. It’s enough for about 1/3 of the people to sit. I figure that most people will be mingling, signing the guest book, picking up escort cards, getting drinks, ets. No need to have lots and lots of chairs cluttering up the place!

our cocktail hour is for an hour… it’ll be outside on the brick patio overlooking the golf course, but the reception dinner tables will be set up and there will be chairs by the interior bar…

i saw a few chairs for older people, but i assume most ppl will be standing and chatting 🙂

I’m glad this came up…the location im lookat to have my reception is a covered deck facing the waterfront.  I have to pay for tables and chairs so i was thinking of doing the couple tables for older ppl but also the cocktail tables too.  I went to a wannabe cocktail hour in a church fellowship hall. It was more than a hour and my feet were pissed! So if anything there has to be chairs along the wall for people to sit.  BUT the fee is for 3 hours so is there any such thing as a cocktail reception…lol Wink.  IDK I wanna hear everybody elses ideas…we can think something up!
