No i dont think so at all. My wedding was super pinteresty. i had chalkboards i made myself with the spray paint you can buy. I had a lot of mason jars, burlap and lace. At the time people on the bee kept saying it was overdone. but honestly where i live no one was doing it. at least not over doing it.

so i think its prob just cuz they have been to a lot of weddings with them, in their town. Im so glad i went ahead and did it!! I think its super cute that youre a teacher too!

@caiteliz23:  I think it’s nice. If it fits your theme, stick with it.

@caiteliz23:  no, if it suits your theme, do it.

yes, people say everything on pinterest has been overdone.  but of all the weddings i have been to in the past 2 years, each and everyone has been unique.

I am with you about the chalkbaords. A lot of people stated they didn’t like them, but I happen to love them. If you love it, go for it.

@caiteliz23:  You’re a teacher with a chalkboard theme? That wouls be SO CUTE!

It’s totally personal and relevant to your life! No WAY would that be tacky or overdone!

Actually, another Bee just posted a wedding recap with a chalkboard theme. I would go check it out!

I think things only seem “overdone” to brides who are wedding planning and are constantly browsing on Pinterest/Blogs/etc. Once we see the same thing on Pinterest over and over, and see it on several blog features, it can seem like it is really common, but in reality it isn’t at all.

I was starting to feel like the mason jar thing was overdone, but I talked to a few of my friends and family who are not knee-deep in wedding planning, and none of them have been to a wedding that had mason jars in centerpieces and thought it sounded creative.

I think chalkboards are so cute, and I think the fact that you’re a teacher makes them very special and personal. I would never think that such a meaningful detail that you love is tacky, your friends and family will love seeing your personality in your details.

And whoever says Pinterest-inspired weddings are overdone won’t be on your guest list 🙂

They’re NOT tacky! Tacky implies that they violate ettiquette or some social norm. They don’t. Those brides just don’t like them. That’s a personal taste thing.

As PPs have said, just because something is all over Pinterest, doesn’t mean it’s THAT commonly used in real weddings. Many times people just pin things they think are cute and don’t actually use them (which is why you’ll see the same picture repinned over and over again).

Chalkboards may be done a lot on pinterest–but I’ve NEVER been to a wedding that used them. If you love them and want to use them, GO FOR IT! Plus, if you’re a teacher, that makes it super personal and adorable.

I’m a teacher as well, and we’re doing a book theme. If it fits YOU, that’s what matters 🙂  Happy planning, and no worries!

I think if you are a teacher is perfect!

A lot of stuff on Pinterest is done to death, so as long as you are ok with it, it doesn’t matter. Also, people don’t usually go to that many weddings each year, so most guests won’t have their heads in the wedding Pinterest cloud 🙂

@caiteliz23:  Chalkboards are pretty overdone but if you’re a teacher and it fits your personality then I think it will be cute. It’s not that things like chalk boards and mason jars are tacky, they’re just very common and since many people want to have a wedding that’s completely different from everybody else they try to avoid wedding staples.

@caiteliz23:  You’re a teacher, so I say stick with it. I think your guests are going to think its cute and fun. Are they overdone? Probably. hell, anything on pintrest is probably overdone. However, its who you are.

It’s fine!!! People who are engrossed in wedding planning themselves are way more sensitive to trends that the general population. Don’t let the preferences of some bees sour your excitement. I, personally, won’t be doing chalkboards because I have horrible handwriting, so I have to print everything! But I think it’s fantastic for a teacher! Your guests will love it and most of them will have never seen a chalkboard at a wedding. And who cares if they have. For every idea, there is someone out there who hates it. So don’t stress. Just do what you like and what fits with you and don’t worry about everyone else!
