I've fallen in love with a wedding gown that's a freakin' steal from a consignment shop. The only thing I'm worried about is that the gown is champagne-colored and not really ivory or white. I still love the dress, and I love the way it looks on me, but I'm scared of how it will photograph. The whole 'it's not white' thing doesn't bother me a bit b/c I realized early on in the shopping process that traditional white just doesn't fly with me for some reason. But in my head I pictured ivory, not champagne.
Did anyone else have a champagne-colored gown? Personal experiences with how it photographed? Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated!
I don't have one, but, if you love it, get it. I'm sure the pictures will be gorgeous.
I personally thing champagne is gorgeous. But if you want ivory, think long and hard. A friend of mine had a gold wedding dress and it was just beautiful. Classy and elegant.
Mine is champagne too!! But unfortunately I have no pics of me in it, and I don't get to wear it for almost 10 months! When I tried it on I fell in love with it, but was worried about the champagne color as well. The people at the store did a good job convincing me that the designer made it that color for a reason, and ivory or white wouldn't have the same effect (for the record, it's available in ivory and white as well, so I don't think they were just trying to get a sale out of me). So I say go for it, and then post some pics!
My gown is champagne sateen with ivory lace over it. I love it, and think I will look amazing in photos:

I have a champagne colored gown and in the fitting pics I have taken it just has that aged vintage look. I am very fair skinned so that looks best on me because I look like a ghost in white.
Mine was champagne-colored but definitely came out looking white in photos.
You can see pictures on my photogrpaher's blog here.
I want a champagne dress, too! :) They're so pretty! Carrie's dress in the first SATC was champagne, now that I think about it.
Don't worry about it! Champagne is such an elegant gown color. It's timeless, and certainly no one will wonder whether you're the bride!
Most brides are wearing ivory or champange! Dont even worry about it
I had one! I don't think that most people pay attention to the exact shade of your dress :)
I love that color dress. I think that it can make a dress look sooo sophisticated and romantic. Post a pic if/when you get it!!!
Mine was champagne with an ivory colored lace over it. It photographed pretty much like ivory. I really loved the champagne color and almost whish it showed up more in the photos....but it was really pretty in person.
Champagne can look much prettier than white/ivory on some brides (not me, I look like I'm going to die if I wear it) - my SIL's dress was champagne, and part of why she picked it was how beautiful the colour looked.
It's a standard bridal colour, I wouldn't worry. Lots of dresses come in champagne.
Personally, I think any pale dress (silver, soft blue, pale pink, pale gold, champagne) works as a "traditional" dress, but equally, there's no real reason not to wear a brightly coloured dress if you want to.
Champagne dresses photograph beautifully! Go for it if you love it!
My dress is champagne colored but in photos it definitely looks ivory! I believe Mrs Cola's dress was more of a champagne color - you should check it out!
Thank you ladies ALL so much!!!
I'm going to go see the dress one last time tomorrow to get my Mom's seal of approval and seeing the gorgeousness from MissChirpie, Mrs. DG, & nona49 make me feel much more confident in the decision. Hopefully will post pictures of me in the dress tomorrow!

I've been a custom art framer for many years now. I've done a lot of wedding portraits and I think that champagne gowns actually photograph better than ivory (and are much prettier to frame). Many ivory gowns look stark white in photos. You won't have that problem with champagne.
This bride's dress (which I've seen in person too) is champagne with ivory lace and it is sooooo gorgeous:

My dress is "candlelight". Whatever that means. It's not white, but it's not ivory either. My dress consultant recommended it because I'm blonde, pale, and freckly. I was nervous, but trusted her. I had my first fitting 2 weeks ago and LOVE it. The color looks great on me, and that's what matters.
As a side note, you should think about veils when you pick your dress. As it happened, my mother's veil from 30 years ago looks perfect -- the lace on it has yellowed to just the right shade of off-white. If I had bought a bright white dress, I never would have been able to wear her veil. Whew!
I bought a second dress in latte/ivory because I loved the style, but in the end I didn't wear it because I felt it didn't coordinate with anything else in the wedding. If had I bought it ahead of time I probably would've planned my colors to match. I am now trying to sell this dress and getting more inquiries on it than the white one, so I think it's pretty common nowadays. On some photos it shows as gold/champagne and in others as ivory (see attached)
Champagne bridal dresses photograph beautifully. Mine is "light gold" but it's more like a champagne color and I LOVE it. The color is what sold me on the dress... so pretty.
If you get it, love it! I tried on white, and ivory, then what I lovd the best was ivory lace over a champagne satin... and what I am buying is ivory lace over mocha satin, so obviously I'm in the "yes" camp!
I just bought my wedding dress, ivory lace over champagne. I loved the way it looked when I tried it on, so I ordered it. When I picked it up, I started to get second thoughts about what "others" might say (that's when I started looking for others in the same situation and came across this posting). You know what? It's my wedding and I can wear what makes me happy. All the other pictures I've seen of the champagne dresses are very beautiful, they all look very elegant and give the brides a warmer glow.
this is a pretty true representation of my gown's true color

Here it is photographed

Even blush dresses tend to look ivory'ish. If you love it, rock it! I never pictured myself in white either, but light ivory. This is even darker but I really couldn't be happier and can't imagine it being lighter IRL.
I wanted exactly what you have found. I think it photographs beautifully and is different. If you like it, go for it!!
@KLP: you look A-FREAKIN-MAZING! I'm so glad you tackled that sucker and went for it! Just amazing.
I wish I had a champagne-colored dress! I am very pale and would have preferred it to white/ivory.
The dress I'm really contemplating buying right now is a champagne (light gold) colored dress and I LOVE how it looks on my skin. I'm very pale (almost translucent), and this dress doens't make me look dead!
I'm purposely going out to find and order a champagne colored dress. I look awful in white, and I love the way the champagne color looks against most everyone's complexion. I'd even consider a pinky-beige if it were the right dress.
Hi, Here is one for a petite bride. This is the one my daughter didn't wear -changed from Oct to Aug wedding. So she chose another. This is a Maggie in Light Gold It's in a closet now :(
I love how your wedding gown came out! It will be nice to see your recaps of the day!
@nona49: Pretty sure that's the exact dress I want to wear:)
hello there.. when i talked to my wedding gown designer, i said that i want an ivory white colored wedding gown.. however, she changed it to champagne color because according to her it will look good in my skin tone. I love the design of the wedding gown. However, on second thought, i was just a bit worried of the color champagne. I think its a little bit modern, than being traditional. Here in my place, champagne colored wedding gown is not usually used. And in my family, I will be the first one to use such color.
Im worried if they will make negative comments for not wearing a white gown. Im just hoping that the champagne colored wedding dress will still have an ivory whittish color in broad daylight.

Mine is an antique ivory that verges on champagne when photographed with a flash...and I love it!
