- Wedding: November 2013
Afternoon, bees! 😀 I am so excited, I just wanted to share! FI and I went to pick out a wedding band back in July, and I liked the one I picked but wanted to mull it over. I liked it well enough, I thought, so I told FI to go ahead and get it. His work picked up and he never went back to purchase it. After surfing a lot on here and the devil Pinterest and so forth, I started to wonder if I should have looked at other options.
Then last night FMIL called FI and wanted his grandmother’s ring back (there is a separate thread about that) that FI had given me. We were going to get it put into a wedding band but weren’t able to afford the cost of a custom band to incorporate her diamond, so we were going to save it and save for a custom band to be made with it in the future. FI’s grandmother wanted me to have that diamond and said as much when she was dying. That whole thing between FMIL, FI and myself got me thinking AGAIN about whether the band I had originally picked was right.
Unfortunately, due to the size of FI’s grandmother’s diamond, we looked again today and still couldn’t get it into a band without having to do a giant custom ring (it’s an odd size, somewhere in the 1/4-1/3 ct range, so too big to match up with the diamonds on my e ring and too large to go into a band unless we filled it with other diamonds that match the size, which was disproportionate to my e ring and was costly), so we decided in the future to have it put in a necklace and I can wear it that way. 🙂
Back to the band, though, I looked at my original choice again and this time, the price had gone up $300, and I still liked it…but I didn’t love it. And having to pony up extra cash for something I was now “eh” about was even less appealing. FI out of the blue suggested I look at other bands that have color in them, and he ran over to the sapphire counter and said “What about this one babe?” and I agreed to try it on. WHAM! It was PERFECT! I love the pop of color against my e ring, it is a good size proportion wise, and the best part is that we are both September babies and sapphire is both of our birth stone! 😀 AND this ring was significantly less than the ring I only felt “eh” about. Score! I *love* this ring. It’s being sized and I get it tomorrow, I am sooo excited!
What do you think, bees?
Sorry the pics are so huge! Don’t know how to fix that…=
