    I have a beautiful engagement ring. It's a very high set (lots of space between the stone and the band) four prong tiffany style solitaire. The only problem is it gets in the way a lot. I spend a lot of time in science labs and it's high enough that it keeps poking through my lab gloves and bike gloves when out riding. It also sometimes scratches the heads of the kids I work with at my other job. My question is is it possible to have the prongs lowered even half a millimeter or so for it to get in the way less or do I need to get a whole new setting? I love the ring otherwise.  Does anyone have an idea of what something like this would cost? I don't see the point in having a ring if I can't wear it at least most of the time.

    @RandomCat:

    Hi, have you ever done something with your prongs?

    I had exactly same situation as you have. (You can check my post)

    I had a very high setting 4 prong solitaire e-ring, and recently I changed the prong part to the 6 prong tiffany low setting crown prong (the one in the picture).

    My jeweler told me that changing prong setting like me (of course, you can choose other designs also from catalog) costs $175.

    Also, they said that it is possible to have the prongs lowered even half a millimeter. In that case, it costs $50.

    Isn't it cheap!? They said that it is regular price about these service.

    So, why don't you go few jewelers and ask question? Some jeweler might give you super expensive price for the same service, so watch out!!!

    Good luck!
