So we had planned our dream honeymoon, going to Thailand for an entire month. We were very excited but given the politcal situation and much debating we have decided not to go. It is such a bummer!

We really debated annd thought if we avoided Bangkok it would be ok but now the US Embassy is closed and evacuating personel. It just doesn't seem like a good place to spend a honeymooon or start a marriage.

Now with a few weeks to go we need to pick a new place. Where would you go? We are looking at Australia, the Caribbean and Brazil. Of course we budgeted for Thailand so that factors in but I founf great airline prices to all three locations. We would probably take 2-4 weeks.

So Bees, where would you go? What would you recommend given we had planned a trip to Thailand.

If you want to go for 2-4 weeks, only australia or brazil would be worth your while. Dont waste all that time in the caribbean. And i would likely pick australia over brazil since there is just SO much to see and do there. good luck!

I guess since I live in FL the carribean is not really "exotic" any more.  I think Australia or Brazil are more likely "once in a lifetime" trips.

Australia or South America - maybe Brazil and Argentina?

I vote the caribbean and island hop!  Each has such a different personality.  I love the caribbean.  From splashy atlantis and paradise island, to smaller islands like St. Kitts, my FI has sailed through many of them and loves each of them and their unique personalities.  He loves Grenada as he says it even smells lovely (one of the spice islands)!

I was born in Puerto Rico and can say that's an amazing island too with many different faces.  Gorgeous rain forest and glowing bays at night and amazing history too.

So much to do!  So many different islands and characteristics.  i am jealous you get two whole weeks!

Miss Watermelon, I think Australia will be great!  It is definitely on my list one day.

We may be crazy (or stupidly optimistic) but we are still planning on Thailand for August.

i know you've already chosen, but two of our friends rented a sailboat (or borrowed from someone?? don't know) and sailed themselves around the caribbean for 2 weeks. It sounded WONDERFUL! Though i couldn't take 2 straight weeks with this chick, i guess she and her hubby enjoyed themselves. haha

@Miss Watermelon - I studied in Melbourne for 6 months, so if you're looking for any recommendations on things to do, let me know! (I'm also planning our family vacation down to Australia that we'll be taking next April, so I'm neck deep in Aussie stuff right now!)

Make sure you swing by New Zealand if you have time! That's one thing I didn't get to do (and I"m making sure to add to our itinerary for our trip next year!)
