It happened when I was wedding planning and now it's happening to my nursery decor!  I bought a bedding set (on clearance!) because it was cute and it had pink (had just found out I was having a girl).  But I have been trying to coordinate decor for that bedding set for a month and a half and I can't find ANYthing that works with it!  I'm so frustrated.  I wish I would have thought about coordinating decor BEFORE I bought the set.  The reason I'm mad is because the set I want is NOT on clearance and probably won't be for a WHILE.  What am I thinking??  (I should also mention that the house we're renting has dark brown walls in the bedroom, so the set would have to work with a dark brown wall!)

I like the first one way better. The second one is so ... dingy! It feels like a hunting lodge for a baby. I think with dark brown walls you NEED the color to lighten things up, not more browns and beiges and pea greens!

Yeah, I kind of have to agree with daydream.. I think it could go "little boy" with dark brown walls kinda fast. I think the pink will look super cute and very girly, and be bright!

Have you tried places like overstock.com for inexpensive stuff to go with it? I mean, shipping's only $2.95!

    @VirginiaMarie: Thank you!!

@Everyone: Can you guys help me find some decorations for the walls, floor, etc to match the first set?  It seems like everyone really likes the pink, but I've had a really hard time finding any wall decor, rugs, decals, etc that would go with it!

I would just do solid colors. My daughter has always had patterened things in her room and we just use solid colors to neutralize all the pink glitter and such. For example a white lamp with a purple she and dangley beads around.

I think they both work! I'd tie in the pink with a chocolate and brown theme - super cute and modern :). There's brown in both comforter sets - I think you're fine!

That pink bedding is adorable. Here are some ideas:

I like these "Wall Candy" and rugs:

And I actually have this duck print in my room. It's the spitting image of my childhood stuffed animal, Jenny Duck. :)

Well I bought the 6 piece bedding set, hamper, lamp, mobile, and pink accent blanket:Changing my mind...is expensive... : wedding 259CRIBChanging my mind...is expensive... : wedding 259MOBChanging my mind...is expensive... : wedding 259BBChanging my mind...is expensive... : wedding 259BSChanging my mind...is expensive... : wedding Zola HamperChanging my mind...is expensive... : wedding 259V

So I'm looking for stuff to put on the walls to brighten the room (like decals or wooden shapes, or anything cute to put on the walls).  Also, I mentioned I'm looking for a rug.  Our furniture is going to be natural colored wood (very light color).  I'm also thinking some cute baskets for the changing table, but I don't know if I should do green or pink!  I guess part of my hang up is I already have purchased curtains in Colombia (knowing eventually I'd have a nursery) and they are green.  Also my glider rocker has a green/brown cushion on it.  So here's what I already have and can't return:

    Crib & Changing Table:

Changing my mind...is expensive... : wedding Changing Table

    Curtains:Changing my mind...is expensive... : wedding Curtains

Glider rocker:Changing my mind...is expensive... : wedding Glider Rocker(It actually looks two different colors from different angles, see the mirror?)

Do you think what I have will still go with the pink set?  My idea to make the curtains work is to switch the solid green valence on it out with the pink valence that matches the bedding.

That sounds like a cute idea for the curtains!

As for the rocker, what about covering it? It's pretty easy to sew a cover for something like that, or honestly you could just wrap the fabric around and tack it down with a few stitches. That might solve your problem pretty easily!

You could cut the valance you don't use up and frame the fabric or make a throw pillow out of it to put on your rocker.  Then you are using both peices.  I think I saw mention in another post that you sew (though I could be mixed up).  If you chose to cut up the valance you bought in Columbia you could buy some pink fabric that matches and create a boarder around the squares you cut out.

    Does that make sense?

OMG!  I'm sorry but I absolutely LOVE the second set!!!  The first one is cute too, but the second one is just....it's just so darn adorable!  I'm looking to get a set similar to that when ever I have a baby.

As far as decorations for the walls, well it looks like most of the girls were able to help you out on that.  However, I wouldn't think it would be too hard, especially since you have so many colors in the bedding set.

@LaborofLove: Ironically the cover on the rocker IS homesewn!  We replaced the cushions because they were too thin, and we also chose a new cover for it.  We had picked that one because it was brown and green, so it went with the curtains AND the wall.  LOL!

@rnc620: yep, I sew and so does DH (he's going to FIDM).  I like the throw pillow idea!!  I could do a checkered pattern with the unused valence, and buy another valence from the bedding set (they're on clearance for uber cheap).

@WendyS328: That is exactly my problem...the 2nd set is sooooo adorable!

Now I'm starting to think maybe I should just get new curtains!  And slipcover the glider rocker...again.  LOL.  Oh man, I posted this because I was worried about changing my mind, and now I'm sticking with the bedding I have and changing my mind about the curtains and chair!  LOL!

I think that a pink or pink & green throw on the rocker would cover the fabric nicely and tie it in with the room.  And / or you could add a cute little pillow.

These storage bins would be cute:

And here is a fun rug:

    I love pink and brown!

A blogger I subscribe to just recently had a little girl, and overviewed how she did up the nursery.  Her color scheme is a bit punchier, but she put a really beautiful tree decal up that sounds similar to what you're talking about...

I love your baby bedding and decor MightyS!  Our baby Sapphire princess will look so beautiful in her new crib!

How about having some pillows made in some pink and brown stripes?  That could go along with the trim on the curtains and the bedding?  I think there's some green in it too.

I agree with the others that I think the pink will go better with the brown walls. It will probably help to lighten up the room. The other set is quite cute but it seems to darken the room a bit because of the subtle shades of brown and green.

As many have mentioned, there are a lot of things out there that are pink that you can help to coordinate the set with the decor.

Good luck, I want to see pics!

If you have a name picked out, or maybe a few inspirational words you'd like to hang on the wall, crafting up some lettered wall decor is quite easy, very fun, and inexpensive!

I bought wooden letters from Joann's to spell my daughter's name.  I pulled light pink and yellow from her bedding to use as accents, so I painted them in alternating pink and yellow shades.  Then, I attached ribbon loops to the back of each letter with the hot glue gun.  For fun decoration, and to jazz them up, I bought a few pre-painted wooden accents from the bins they have at Joann's (in the wood craft section, as well).  A little bit of creative placement and some hot glue and you're done!  To hang them on the wall, I used white thumb tacks.  I didn't want the letters to move or fall, so I also used a little tape on the back of each letter to secure it to the wall.

Madison's room was beach themed -- her bed set had ice cream cones, suns, fish, and tropical flowers on it.  I was able to find enough matching wooden accents at Joann's to customize some other decor ideas.  I took photos of my husband and I when we were infants, printed them in 8x10, found simple white frames, and accented the frames with the wooden decorations.  Then, I hung them by Madison's crib.  This turned out to be a neat idea because each day we were able to look at our daughter and compare her to each of us when we were babies!

Just wanted to share...  Have fun!
