    @Jen51287:  Nope, you’re not legally married until you have signed witnesses and the JOP or priest signs as well. This then gets mailed in by a clerk, and you receieve your REAL license in the mail…the paper you have is an application for the license that you must hold onto.

    @Jen51287:  If you’re flying for your HM or using a passport you really want to wait until after the HM to change your name.

    @Jen51287:  You have to sign the license with your officiant and mail it back to the clerk’s office for clocking in and filing.  Then you have to get a certified copy of your license from the clerk’s office and take that with you to get your name changed with Social Security.  Until the license is clocked by the clerk you aren’t legally married and therefore you cannot yet change your name.

    @mchitt329:  Good tip!  Make sure to book your honeymoon travel in your maiden name because you most likely won’t be able to complete your name change with Social Security and the DMV until at least a month or two after the wedding.
