So I know many of us “reserve” our new gmail addresses before the wedding….I’m slowly trying to setup my new account (obviously I’ll forward email from the old – no big deal) by sharing my calendars, google docs, etc with myself.
BUT the one place i’m nervous is on changing the account on my phone (android). Has anyone done this? My thought is to turn off the syncing with my maiden name account and add the married name account and turn on syncing. I have a serious fear of my contacts becoming crazy and duplicated. Or just a total disaster.
I heard that to delete the maiden name account and make married name account you have to do a factory reset (which I’m totally not into….).
Hoping some techy bees out there can offer advice. 🙂 THANKS

@meadow_jersey: I thought I heard of a way to just rename your account through Google? Hopefully other bees will ahve some answers.

I don’t have an android. I have an iPhone. I was able to have multiple email addresses on my phone ‘s program…my married email, maiden email, work email, etc. Is it possible to do this?
It seems like what you’ve thought about doing with the syncing should work though. If it messes up, would it be possible to undo the syncing and take it into a store ofwhatever service provider you have and ask them to do it. Seems like they should know since people change email addresses frequently and would need assistance.
Good luck! And it’s moments like these that make me realize why we women get stuck changing our names. No way in hell my DH would have jumped through all the hoops I did to change my name.

@love108: I did that – and it would be fine for now and a couple years — but I can’t imagine telling people my address in 10 years with my maiden name……

@MrsPaulsBabyBallerina: True…if it doesn’t work…I should be able to go to the verizon store and say HELLLLP :-p

@meadow_jersey: if you’ve set up an account with your new name, why would you still be telling people the email with your maiden name?
I just did this (but with an iPhone). I forwarded all the email from my maiden name account to my married name account. Deleted the maiden name account from the mail settings folder on my phone and added the married name account. There was no problem at all.

@Glasgowbound: PP was saying to just change the display name….which means I would still give out the old address.
On Android I’ve been told you can’t delete the primary account without a factory reset on the phone – I cringe at the idea of re-doing all the user settings that I’ve done to make my phone behave the way it should. I plan to have my maiden name acct forward to my married name acct once I set up my phone. Just hoping some bee with an android phone can confirm that this will actually work (that you can have both accts on there but basically tell the maiden name acct to be silent…….right now all my phone number contacts come from gmail – which is awesome for managing…but I am worried about having everything duplicated)

@meadow_jersey: Just go to Settings > Accounts > add account. You’ll have to switch between mailboxes in the Gmail app, but I think things like calendar just overlap. You don’t have to turn off sync and all of that. You can have multiple Google accounts on your phone active.
