A fair warning to all ladies changing their name at Bank of America – if you have a joint account with anyone they need to resign the signature card on the account, which means you need to go into othe bank with all those people or you need to get BOA to work with other offices to get thier signatures . . even though they are all on file.
I have multiple joint accounts at BOA for various reasons. The people on my accounts live anywhere from an hour away to across the country from me! BOA can clearly see these are all my accounts, but yet will only change my name on my account that I have by myself. I understand the need for a signature card – I use to be a bank teller so I don’t need to be told how it works. I just find it ridiculous that they can clearly see all my accounts and allow me to change my name on my non joint account, but can’t change it on the others. My new signatue for that one account was taken electronically! I didn’t even sign a piece of paper to change my name. I think this is a horrible system since this is a national bank.
That is my rant – thanks!

@fuzzle79: Haha oh I remember that day … I had a Canadian dollar check from a cousin made out to Mr. and Mrs. New Last Name to deposit as well, so I went to BofA to take care of the name change and check deposit. I was swiftly informed that my Dad was somehow mysteriously still listed as a joint signer on my account even though we took him off years ago (WAY TO GO, GUYS) so I couldn’t change my name … which meant I couldn’t deposit the check because it was made out to my new name … and even if the name change had gone through, I couldn’t do it because the BofA account wasn’t a joint account with DH … but I couldn’t add DH because my dad was still listed on the account …
So then I burned down the bank and went to jail but I regret nothing.

@iarebridezilla: Ridiculous! My dad is on one of my checking accounts because he had to open it years and years ago when I was too young to start the account myself. My husband and I didn’t have an issue depositing checks because we do have a joint account (which now I need to drag him into BOA to get that fixed) so I just deposited all the checks in the ATM! It’s ridiculous though – if i can electronically sign to change my name on one account why do you need everyone to sign something. Why isn’t the name change simply an amendment to the card already in the system! Ugh. I wish I could complain everywhere about this! It’s harder to change my name at bank of america than social security or the RMV.
