- Wedding: August 2013
So, I personally have never met or talked to anyone who changed their venue location (especially after putting down a deposit). We have a 2 year engagement, and are coming up on one year engaged. I jumped the gun and booked the one and only venue I looked at in NorCal back in September, $1,000 deposit. I thought it was the venue, it was within my parents budget, I thought my Fiance liked it, etc…so I continue planning and end up booking a photographer, dj and MUA. The dj and MUA deposits only totaled $150 while the photographer was about $800.
Fast forward to this weekend, 9 months after booking the venue and 21 days before I am due to make the next $1,000 deposit. My Fiance comes to me and says “I hate our venue”. I had been going back and forth for awhile, wondering if I made the right decision, worrying that because its so far out of the way for literally everyone that people wouldnt come, the list goes on so when he said this i wasn’t exactly mad, a little freaked out yes, but it actually made me feel better because I had been having doubts too and knowing that he didn’t like it made the decision to cancel it and switch venues easier.
We lived in SoCal for 6+ years before moving to NY last summer, thats where the majoriry of our friends live, the others are in nor cal. This venue we decided on was one that I never dreamed we would be able to afford with my parents very generous budget, but my Fiance has assured me that he will make it happen. So as of now we are switching our venue to our dream wedding location in SoCal. We are going home in a couple weeks and setting up an appt to tour and go over all of the information and details and hopefully booking it, then i will have to do the difficult job of canceling my other venue and vendors. Luckily I am keeping my photographer because I love her and its actually way cheaper to just pay for her travel than to lose the deposit and find a photographer in socal because they tend to be super expensive.
Our new wedding is now going to be probably more than double what the original wedding was going to cost, but its our ONE day and we have waited 2 years to have it, and have been together over 10 years at this point. We have put it off for so long SO we CAN have our dream wedding so I am SO SO excited and feel so blessed to have such an amazing Fiance who wants to make my dreams come true. It definitely feels surreal, and a little scary right now but I know that we wont have any regrets. We still have over a year until our wedding date so I guess it isn’t all that crazy, its still longer than some people have to plan their wedding, but we are starting from basically scratch and planning long distance will supply its own challenges but I know it will all be worth it!
Has anyone else changed their wedding venue? known anyone who has? wish they had?
