I'm planning on changing my email signature to Jane Smith Doe...and then after six months just removing the 'Smith'
Hi there! This is common in my workplace. I've seen all sorts. I did Jane (Smith) Doe in my email signature. I do have a few others who did as you were doing.
I did this and I did what Hobochic suggested. My email signature has both names, and I'm planning on dropping my maiden name eventually. I also have my name with the maiden name in parenthisis in my staff directory. The hard one is that my email address has my last name in it, so I think people are kind of confused when I give an address that has nothing to do with my new last name. Oh well...
I'm doing what Hobochic suggested. Actually, because i work at a school, some things around here already have my married name on them in anticipation of the fall semester (I get married the week before school starts!) It is so strange to see my maried name around!
I also like Hobochic's suggestion and those who have agreed with it the best. My transition at work is going very slowly because it's taking a while to trickle though each system I access.
If you like your original suggestion, you might consider using "formerly" although I think the connotation is a bit off, at least for me.
I fourth hobochic's suggestion! Since a lot of my job involves working with people outside my workplace, I'm planning on sending them an e-mail with my updated contact information, as my e-mail with my maiden name will only forward to me for so long.
Ok, thank you for the suggestions. I think I am going to do Jane (Smith) Doe. Thanks ladies!!!
@august15bride: I know exactly what you mean! I too work at a university and received the first transcript addressed to me with my married name. (Thanks to Facebook, I guess.) REALLY WEIRD! :o)
When one of my coworkers got married and changed her last name, she sent out a mass-email letting everyone know. At our company, our last names are a part of our email addresses, so she needed to remind people to update their address books!
I changed my name at work. A new email was set up and I kept my old email. I dont have access to it but everything sent to that email is forwarded to my new one. Most people dont even notice or if they do, they dont say anything. Our IT dept did send out a mass email to the company about my name change but I didnt say anything to clients.
I'm glad you figured out what you wanted to do, Peeptoe!
I had the convenience of changing jobs after the wedding, so even though things have been hectic because I only just got proof of my new name (i.,e. marriage license) a couple of days ago, I signed all my work documents with my new name. Changing your name is SO much hard work!
You can also do Jane Doe (nee Jane Smith)... better look up where the accent goes in nee, though, 'cuz I can't remember!
Yup, i just did this. I put my new name in and then below it it says *Please note my name has changed from X to X. Please update accordingly
