I haven't tried it yet (but will), my girlfriend discovered using Vaseline on your lips~
I am willing to try anything. I can't even wear lipstick right now because they are chapped. :(
I had constant chapped lips for a year after having my baby. I started taking vitamin E and it went away. Maybe try that?
@jayebaby: Yikes! I can't imagine a year. :/ I am going out to the stores today and probably buying whatever anyone suggests haha.
My fav things:
-burts
-vasaline (just straight from the jar, but they also make tubes for your lips)
-olive oil (I rub some on everytime I walk past my container of it I keep in the family room)
-exfoliate your lips (use a washcloth and gently rub in circles)
And whatever you do... DO NOT LICK YOUR LIPS!
I used to swear by mentholatum; I ran out a couple years ago and never ended up buying more because my FI hated the menthol smell. I think it's very much like vasoline though, but menthol is tingly!
Get yourself some Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment. It works wonders on dry, cracked lips.
I also try to avoid getting dry lips by using Nivea lip balm before bed and under my lipstick in the morning, and drinking lots of water.
Vaseline at night and Burt's during the day... I found the Nourishing Lip Balm with Mango Butter worked best for me.
I'm with converse bride- aquaphor is the best, longest lasting things out there?
I am right with you on the Illinois winter experience! I personally think Vaseline Lip Therapy, in the little sqeeze tube, is the best. Less than $2 at just about any store. I keep mine on me at all times during the winter months.
I've tried just about everything, and the best is Cocoa Butter lip balm!
@jayebaby: Ah! Vitamin E! I'm going to take one right now.
Vaseline is not helping me - even Lanolin not doing it's magic on these chapped lips. :(
I use this neutrogena lip balm and it's awesome. If it's even a little windy or under 70 degrees, I get instant chapped lips and I can NOT function like that lol.
Neosporin lip health daily treatment! I have always had issues with dry/cracked lips and I love this product.
@converse_bride: I use this every night before bed, and I never get chapped lips. This stuff is amazing!
Only Vaseline! It works amazing. My girlfriend use to suffer from really bad chaped lips that end up causing her lips to swell up. vaseline is the only thing that worked for her.
Manuka Honey. It's so expensive for honey, but it works. I haven't used Vaseline, Carmex, Aquaphor, or anything else since I started applying it regularly. Don't use it right before you need to walk outside, b/c hair gets stuck in it until it absorbs. It will heal severly chapped lips. When I stopped using Carmex, my lips would feel so dry it was miserable and I went through a sloughing period (which Carmex is designed to do), but life is so much better without it.
ETA I used the Manuka honey to heal the miserable dry days after kicking the Carmex habit and haven't looked back!
Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream! I swear, it's a cure-all! I've never actually used it for it's "real" purpose - a night cream - because it's soooo greasy, but it makes my lips so moisturized and soft!
Blistex Daily Conditioning Treatment. I've always had horribly chapped lips and this has been a life saver. Nothing else works for me. Vaseline will do the trick in between the times that I run out, but this particular blistex outshines vaseline. I love it because it actually sinks into your skin AND lasts a while. I don't have to reapply every few minutes.
if you live in Australia or have friends who travel from there (or can mail you some), Lucas' Pawpaw Ointment is incredible.
Fermented papaya has enzymes that break up dead dry skin, and it's a petroleum jelly base. seriously it's incredible.
I use an SPF balm (Nivea, currently) on a daily basis. I work outdoors every day in the snow & sun.
another vote for vaseline! i use it morning and night during the drier seasons.
also, super randomly: bath and body works' co bigelow mentha lip glosses are AMAZING, and smell/taste good to boot!
Carmex is the only lip balm that has ever really helped me! It really stays put and made a huge difference during Boston winters!
My go-to for chapped lips is carmex, but only the one in the little tub (not the tube). I apply it before going to bed, and my lips are fixed in the morning. I don't use it every night, just as needed.
@Firestarter: I have the same problem! Especially because I constantly chew on my lips (and winter doesn't help). I use Aquaphor healing ointment. It's amazing! It says it's for dry, cracked, or irritated skin but the derm recommended it to a friend of my before her wedding because her lips swelled up and started cracking from all the stress. You couldn't even tell at the wedding. She shared this secret with me. Now I won't use anything else!
I second Claireos with the Blistex DCT recommendation. I am a chapstick junkie and this is by far my favorite!!!
you can take honey and sugar (only a little bit) and mix it together, rub it on your lips and it makes them smooth. it also tastes good :)

I live in Illinois and the weather has been so off this year. Any way, it is taking a toll on my lips and they are so chapped!!
My Burt's Bee's Ultra Conditioning lip balm is not helping.
What do you use?
