We are going with D'Lish. The tasting was pretty amazing! Ive heard good things about the Publix cakes too though.
I'm getting mine at Publix. All I want is a simple 3 tier white cake, nothing fancy, and I didn't want to spend over $500.00. I LOVED FH's brothers cake at their wedding so I asked where they got it and it turned out to be Publix! So for me this was just a money saver :)
Michelangelo's, Its an Italian restaurant on Sam Rittenberg. I looked at Public's but I didn't like their fondant work and the price was the same as the estimate from a cake specialist after my military discount. I didn't want American butter-cream icing and couldn't use a whip icing because of the decorations. Mines going to be Italian Meringue butter-cream (not super sweet), Bavarian Cream w/rasberry cake for the large tier and topper and a Almond cake with lemon meringue and blackberry drizzle for the second tier. I will admit public's has good cakes just wouldn't work for my dream cake. Talk with Jackie, my mom was impressed with the options.
I hired Molly at D'Lish. The cake was exactly what I wanted and her cakes taste A-MAZING!
I love D'lish! I think we are going with Wedding Cakes by Jim Smeal. Not sure yet though because we may have a family friend who is an insanely talented cake maker outside of Charleston do it. We have to figure out the logistics first!
@Ms.Charleston Pearls: Just my two cents, but I know someone who has tasted Jim's Cakes before and says that his works looks amazing, but taste dry and flavorless. I have never tried it myself so I can't speak personally, just wanted to let you know in case you hadn't done a tasting yet! You may taste it and find it to be delicious.
@SoonToBeMrsWilson: We are meeting with them in November so I don't know how the design will turn out, but we did a tasting with The Cake Stand in May and OMG it was the most amazing cake I have ever put in my mouth, and I'm not even a cake person! I highly recommend them based on taste and price alone.
Sugar bakery dt on Cannon st. We are having them do cupcakes for our wedding. If you have never been, you have to stop by - their cupcakes are delicious!
We are also going with D'lish. She's been wonderful to work with since I've had to do everything over email and the cake tasting box was amazing.
I am doing Publix. I like the way their cake tastes, and they have a simple non-fondant design that I think will work for me. Plus I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on something that I wasn't really passionate about.
We are getting a smaller version of this and I am putting the flowers on myself.

We got our wedding cake from Publix. It looked great and tasted delicious. You will be very happy with your cake.
We're getting married on the 30th of July, and we don't live in Charleston, it's a destination wedding for us and we decided on using the cake designer "Wedding Cakes By Jim Smeal". He's really good and is a true professional.
Would anyone mind sharing where they got their cake, the pricing and number of servings?? We're trying to work on our budget and this is an area we have no idea what to expect!
@Pink Peony: We haven't gotten our cake yet but we're going through Jim Smeal. For 125 guests it is going to be $850.00 plus $40.00 to rent the cake stand and a $100.00 fee to transport and set it up. So like almost $1,000 for everything, but he's awesome and can do anything you want.
@Pink Peony: Ours was about $350 for 60 cupcakes and a six inch cake plus rentals of four cake stands (includes delivery and taxes). Here's a picture of the design. She was also incredibly easy to work with over email.
@fashionista81: wow! that seems really pricy... are you doing a grooms cake too or just a wedding cake??
@mandb122: thanks for sharing. FH is totally against cupcakes hahaha
@Pink Peony: If you look through her Facebook albums she makes tons of gorgeous cakes too. Cupcakes were just an easier option for us.
@mandb122: I'd love to but I'm in China for 2 months and can't get on facebook easily here. I'll definitely contact them. Who's your contact person? Thanks!
@Pink Peony: Here's the website that has the contact information and some pictures on it:
If you need the actual contact email just let me know and I'll PM it to you.
@mandb122: I just heard from Molly and they're totally booked for the whole weekend of our wedding!
Has anyone used Cake-a-Licious, Ashley Bakery or DeClare???
I'm using Carolina Cake Queen in Mt P. She is so creative & very nice! We are getting a cake for 60 guests for $200 and she can make anything in any flavor you would like. She has a facebook page w/lots of pics of her work. I was gonna use Publix but her prices are better & she doesn't charge extra for each tier to be a different flavor or fo fillings like Publix quoted me.
@tera7363: I also ended up finding a bakery that had cheaper prices than publix but your price is by far the best I've seen! Awesome find!
We're going with DeClare. They're cake was super yummy (especially the chocolate sour cream and red velvet) and even FH likes it, which is saying a lot because he rarely eats dessert. Our quote with Ashley Bakery was DOUBLE our quote from DeClare - for exactly the same cakes!
These posts have been really helpful for me as I plan to get married in Mount Pleasant (though I consider myself a Charleston bride anyway!). I'm definitely interested in Carolina Cake Queen now.....Pink Peony, would you mind sharing the pricing and number of servings for your cake from DeClare?
@Leene: We got a wedding cake with 70 servings and a grooms cake with 30 servings for about $650. Alison is great to work with!

I was thinking about ordering my cake from Publix because I love their cakes, but now I'm not too sure. Where did y'all or where are y'all going order your cake??
