One suggestion if you're looking for an outside parklike venue would the Confederate Homes and Gardens, its very close to the Old Exchange. I want to say it cost less than $1000.00. Theres not much info about it online but the lady I spoke with there was SO NICE. How many people are you having? There is also Washington Park as an option for downtown but I think you can only have a small guest list. Not sure.
Not sure if you are willing to go outside of Charleston, but the prices are better. In Moncks Corner there is Old Santee Canal State Park which is around $850 to have the ceremony & reception there. Also, Mepkin Abbey in Moncks Corner for a ceremony option. My wedding is going to be at the Gatherings of Dorchester & it's $850 there. You could also rent an ocean front beach house & get married on the beach & have the reception at the house. Cypress Gardens is pretty too.
Happy Planning!
@june42011: We actually did pick the Confederate Home! Mom & FH both LOVE it. I think I like the church a bit better, but the gardens at the Confederate Home are so pretty, and such a surprise walking in from the street!
@Pink Peony: Awesome! It's going to be so pretty!!!

Hello everyone! I'm newly engaged (just one month now) and finally getting around to planning this thing for sometime next spring. But I don't know where!? Does anyone have any great reasonably priced options in Charleston/Mt Pleasant/Folly Beach/Sullivans Island/IOP?
I am headed down there (from NC, so not too far) to meet with possible venues on June 10/11 and I'd like to book that weekend up with back to back appointments to maximize my time there---but I don't even know where to start. Any suggestions? (I can report back afterwards here on anything I saw/liked/disliked)
My ideal wedding is in a pretty spot where we don't have to do too much (or any) decorating. And the day is laid back and fun. With dancing. And perhaps BBQ or shrimp and grits and an ice cream bar or smores instead of wedding cake. So I'm not super traditional. I keep thinking my first choice would be to just rent a beach house and then get married on the beach and have a party at the house--but that is tricky. It's hard to find a beach house zoned to hold an event large enough (I think there will be 85-90 guests) and while if it is pretty, it could work great (people just hanging out on the porches), I am thinking the best thing might be to rent one with a yard where we can have a tent and a dance area (in case of rain and so that the reception has a center).
Thoughts? Help!
how about the magnolia plantation/gardens, boone hall plantation or even at the angel oak on james island? all would be lovely...but outdoor.
The River House at Lowndes Grove is really pretty option for a smaller crowd. We are doing our RD dinner there. Rental fee is 2k and they do in house catering and set up. They can take care of everything for you. http://www.pphgcharleston.com/venues/view/river_house
Love the idea of the River house! We almost had our wedding there and it is a beautiful venue overlooking the river!
The River House is a great option but you MUST be finished by 5pm, so daytime events only. Just keep that in mind!
@Pink Peony: Really? We had out rehearsal dinner there and it started at 6:30.
It was stunning though! We loved it!
@june42011: BTWs, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Wow! Yeah, when we went to check it out in November they told us daytime events only. Maybe it's a new policy... Hope you post photos soon, I can't wait to see your wedding!

Hey ladies, we're having some trouble finding an affordable ceremony venue... We had picked Hampton Park, but apparently the Citadel will be doing full military parades during our ceremony time. The churches in town are looking like $3000 just for the ceremony which is way over our budget. Any suggestions?? Please let me know!! Thanks!
