@MrsPinkPeony:  We had a simillar experience. We went to some very nice places immediately after a hot day at work…. aparently we didn’t look so hot, some sales reps were instantly pre-qualifying without even asking our budget.  When we visited Rivertowne Country Club, Lacy, their rep asked for our budget… go ahead laugh, we told her $5,000.00. She said “great, I’ll see what I can do for that”. She came back with a menu that included shrimp pasta, chicken, and carved roast beef, yummm!!! She came in at $6,000.00 for 100 people including a wine and beer open bar. On the wedding day she was there to make sure everything was perfect.  We did the ceremony on the lawn at the club house, however, for only an additional $1000.00 we could have been on the waterfront at Patriots Point. We chose the club house because of some elderly friends in attendance, we didn’t want to expose them to too much heat on July 25th. After paying for the DJ, photographer, wedding gown, and other expenses we came out at $10,000.00 total.  Oh, that included a live 4 piece string ensemble to play during the ceremony…. it all turned out amazing, all of our guests had fun, $20,000 could have not bought a better wedding…. Lacy and the staff at Rivertowne rock!!!

My photog is based in Charleston and is AWESOME. Let me know if you need one and I’ll send you his way πŸ™‚ (He’s not cheap but worth every penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and thousands I’ll be paying him… )

About $25,000. And I KNOW it is possible to do if for way less than that. The parents are helping out so we are getting a band instead of a DJ…videographer…carriage ride… a lot of extras so that brings the budget up!

I originally budgeted around 10,000 and ended up coming in a little over 11,000. It’s doable. People can be jerks though. I had my wedding at the Old Santee Canal Park in Moncks Corner so I ended up outside of the actual city of Charleston, but it’s in the surrounding area. Originally when I was planning my wedding IN Charleston (like downtown), I had plenty of great contacts, so I still know it’s doable. I know of many people who have done it with a much smaller budget than yours!

I think every SC girl dreams of having her wedding in Charleston. After looking at many, many options in Charleston my measly 6k budget just wouldnt cut it.

So I opted to move our wedding about an hour north to Pawley’s Island πŸ™‚ Hey…it works!

Good luck with your budgets ladies!

My budget is $20,000.  Everything is so expensive here!  Who are some of the vendors you all have found that are reasonably priced?

@Lhuitt82: I am using Cafe Catering situated in Mt.Pleasant…they gave us a great deal and the food is to die for.

where did everyone get their flowers? I plan on arranging them myself to save money so I am thinking wholesale. Any suggestions? Where did you get a good deal?

My budget is 20k and I feel like that is a large amount of money to spend on a wedding! I couldn’t imagine spending more than that. I cringe at the thought. Kudos to you ladies getting it done for cheaper! Any pictures from the newleyweds? πŸ™‚

We are getting married at the Rice Mill Building downtown and having our reception there as well.

@CharlestonBlues: My aunt is doing my flowers and she is buying them wholesale from Horst Flowers in West Ashley. Where are you getting married? πŸ™‚ March is a great month, eh?

EDIT: I acutally am having the opposite problems when it comes to friends and family. They laugh at me for spending “way too much money” and comment on how it’s “just a day” and “a waste.” Boo people and their mean comments!

PS We should do a small Charleston meet up!!! Anyone interested?

@mmm31911: The Rice Mill was my second choice venue! I really liked it but with the wedding size were are having…about 200 we decided that venue was too small for us. But it is beautiful! Have you had your tasting with Good Food Catering yet? I always thought they would be amazing!

We started out at $8,000 and then we reality hit, our budget has ballooned to $15,000, which I think is tight for Charleston, but totally doable. We splurged on the photography and the dress, but found some great vendors at a great price. We haven’t used them yet, but just based upon prices and dealing with them during contract negotiations I highly recommend the following:

Catering: Hans with the Crazy Dutchman catering

Hair: Affair hair by Tanesha

Flowers: Anne Bowen with Charleston Stems
