Any South Carolina Bee’s know how long the wedding license is valid? A year ago I called and they said 3 months, then my mom called recently and they said a year, not believing her I called back and was told 6 months…now I’m really confused! We are trying to plan out final trip before the wedding based on when we can get the license. I don’t know how to get an official answer, the website doesn’t have that info.

I called one of my Bridesmaids, who happens to be an officiant here in Charleston. She said the license actually has no expiration day on them, but she says a year would be safe. She says you only need to give them 24 hours. She recommends to her couples that they come down 24 hours (buisness) prior to the wedding to get their licenses. So if you want to get married on Saturday, come down Thursday, license will be ready Friday for pickup. City of Charleston doesn’t require blood tests or residency. For more info you can check out her site at http://www.coolcharlestonweddings.com
hope this helps

@Kelticmaid: Do you know if I can go to any county? My deacon said I had to do Charleston county by but I have only heard that through him its 40 dollars cheaper to get it in FH’s family’s county and if theres no expiration we can get it when we go down for our shower.

@MrsPinkPeony: You can go to any county and there is no expiration date…I *think* thats what my wedding planner told me.

@MrsPinkPeony: I am pretty sure that you can get the actual license in any county and use it anywhere in SC. However, your officiant is probably requesting that you get it in the county where you will be married since it has to be returned to the same county where it was issued by the person performing the ceremony. It would probably be easier for them to do that in a timely fashion if it’s the same county.

@JamaicaBride: That sucks a little if we have to go with our county. It’s more expensive, but I guess the license is pretty important huh?
