You are supposed to take your temp while you are still half asleep so the fact that you are awake and redoing it time after time doesn’t help. There is no need to keep taking it after the first one.

I wake up and take my temp and then go get ready for work. I usually don’t even look at it until I get home for lunch and then put it in my phone.

@proudcatlady:  Ideally, you need to take it every day in the morning before you put your feet on the floor. I use the first reading, no need to keep taking more because the more awake you are the less accurate it will be. Juts try to read it once and memorize it unless you have one of those thermometers that remembers it in case you need to go back to sleep. Feel free to join us at the Charters thread.

you only need to take it once. i’ve taken it more than once in a row (because i didn’t want to believe the 1st result) and it’s always different. it’ll just stress you out to take it more than once.

Go with the first one!! I did this a couple of times cause I had slept with my mouth open & wanted to make sure I was getting a good reading. I found that most of the time, the 1st temp made the most sense.

@proudcatlady:  First of all to join the Charters you have to pay a membership ( annually whether or not you use the thread or not) then you have to tell all of your facebook friends you joined so they find us and like us. Just kidding 🙂 LOL! No we are totally free and awesome. All the different threads you see correspond to a previous thread that got closed because there were too many posts. We talk a lot 🙂 All you have to do is go the most recent one (currently XXXVII) and do the roll call. Hope to see you there.

If you’re comfortable with it, you might want to try temping vaginally instead of orally.  I sleep with my mouth open sometimes and found that my temps just weren’t consistent enough (and changed pretty substantially when I tried temping more than one time in a row).  If I temped on a morning when my mouth was open, it would be down.  If my mouth had been closed, it would be up.  And forget it, if in my still sleeping state, I grabbed for my water glass instead of the thermometer first.  I also don’t worry about stupid things anymore like did I put the thermometer under my tongue enough, did I put it in the same side of my mouth, etc, etc – all stuff that probably doesn’t matter but I still worried about.

@proudcatlady:  I don’t have too much to recommend.  I have the Target brand basal thermometer and that sucker beeps loud enough for me to always hear it.  …in fact, my cats have gotten to know that that sound means I’m kinda awake and they hop up to try and get me to wake up all the way so I’ll pet them…  The only other thing I can think to recommend is to hold the covers up (or hide under them, lol) so you can hear better?  I know, not the greatest advice.  Smile
