What brand thermometer do you have? I think its a bit odd that its giving you the same temperarture all week even at night.
I think that's really odd too. My temperature has never been the exact same thing two days in a row, it's always at least a little different. And at night it's always different than my normal wake-up temperature. I'd probably try out a different thermometer and see if it gives you different results.
I would have said it was odd in the past, but this month I've gotten 4 of the same temps in a row and today it changed. I guess I would wait a little while to see if it changes. I've also seen on FF a number of charts where women's temps plateaued some where through out the month.
And just to make sure, you're temping before you roll around, turn on the light, anything, right? :)
I think it's odd. Mine is rarely the same even an hour apart - like if I roll over and go back to sleep and then take it again when I wake up, it's different.
I think it's odd too. However, I've had the same temps two days in a row but never for this long. Another option is to take your temperature vaginally, but once you do that you want to use that termometer only there. Don't switch back and forth.
I've had the same temp for 3 days in a row, so I don't think it would be impossible to have it 7 in a row. Just keep waiting! (Or- are your cycles normally longer than 28-30 days? I'm sure you know this since you've read TCOYF, but if so, you may have to wait a bit longer to see the big spike!)
I've had the same temp like 5 times in a row. I don't think it's totally normal, but it can happen.
While you guys are talking about charting- may I ask what types of temp ranges you have? Mine seemed really low, so much so that I thought about buying a new thermometer just in case mine is old and the battery is about to go...
@DaneLady: Mine are really low. They start in the 96s, move to the mid to high 97s after O and have only been over 98 when I'm on extra progesterone pills to supplement.
@Running Elley: Thanks. Mine was just under 96... but to clarify we are TTA. I need to be more consistent with actually waking up enough to take my temp without waking up my FI- apparently I am a bad charter :(
I don't think it's TOO odd, simply because that's usually how my charts look. Pre O I typically have 7 or 8 days of the same exact temp. On occasion it will only be 5 or 6 of the same, but you get the idea.
@DaneLady: My temps are also on the lower end. I'm usually at 96 pre O and anywhere from 97.6 and to 98.0 after O.
To clarify, I think it's odd that your BBT isn't any different from your end of the day temp. I don't think it's necessarily odd to have the same temp a few mornings in a row.
My temps are kinda low too... usually between 96.4-96.8 early in my cycle and 97.2-97.9 after. I am always cold, so I do plan on asking my doctor about this.
@78h2o: I know this isn't the cause for everybody but I'm also always cold so I figured I'd mention it...My doctor thinks that my lower temps combined with my always being cold and fatigue (along with a few other things) are all because of thyroid issues. My issues with my thyroid are causing other TTC issues so it's always worth getting it checked :)
@Running Elley: Good call on mentioning that. I am also always freezing, but my I had my thyroid checked and everything was fine. It's def something to look into though!
@Running Elley: That's what I was going to mention=)
Maybe you're just awesome?=) Because stable temps are a good thing....I know I have whacky temps because i'm very anemic....anemic folks are always cold:) and their temps don't rise very consistently so I gave up on temping weeeeeks ago:) I don't think it's for everyone.
Maybe you could avoid pregnancy by using O test strips? Or looking out for EWCM? That way you'll have more than just a temp to guide you:)
@Running Elley: Agreed. Low temperatures are indicative of hypothyroidism. Even being medicated, my temperatures are still low but it's very important to get treatment even if the OP is not TTC.
@TurtleDoves: Oh I'm anemic too so that could also be part of it!
@beekiss: I completely agree. It's not something that you want to go untreated.
@Mrsgurzakovic: They are ovulation predictor kits. You can purchase them online and you pee on them to know when you're getting ready to ovulate. It won't confirm ovulation as it only measures the surge upto ovulation and sometimes you won't actually ovulate. The best method is to record your basal body temperature to know if you actually ovulated or not.
@Running Elley: Low thyroid function can cause long and heavier periods which can then cause anemia. If anyone has anemia, they should also make sure that they don't also have hypothyroidism. A lot of women who have PCOS also have hypothyroidism and doctors brush off their irregular, heavy, long periods from PCOS and not from thyroid dysfunction which I think you've touched upon in previous threads. I just thought I'd connect the dots a little :)
@beekiss: Yepp that's exactly what has happened to me :) I didn't realize that the PCOS could cause anemia though, which definitely makes sense. I was diagnosed with PCOS 6 years ago but only recently learned about my hypothyroidism last month when we were looking deeper into my low progesterone issues and MCs. My doctor and I had always just assumed my issues were solely from the PCOS but since I've been researching the hypothyroidism it seems like that could've been the culprit of everything all along.
@oracle: my temp would be the EXACT same too, until ovulation. Although I will warn you that drinking the night before would also raise my temp in the morning, so beware of 'additional factors'. And congrats on your exact temp like I had.....made it so easy to know what's going on. (Used my info to date my current pregnancy, which is a good thing for me, since I had really long and different length cycles).
PS. I also mistrusted my thermometer and bought a new one, but I was still the same, so it's possibe. And I would do the 'test at different times' and 'make DH' take temp too so I could see that the darn thing was capable of new temps. It's funny.
@Running Elley: we're "medical issue twins" ;)
@Mrsgurzakovic: i realize your Q has been answered but wanted to add that the O strips will tell you that you WILL O in 24hs and then you BD all day and night (or not if you're tring to avoid preg) and then the next morning after Oing, you should get the temp to spike up, indicating you indeed Oed.
@oracle: By the way I wanted to add: I bought my BT for like $7 (doesnt get much cheaper than that) and mine works fine so you're probably OK as far as that goes
Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate the feedback! After 5 days at 97.3, it FINALLY changed to 96.9 and then popped up to 98.0 (the day I was supposed to ovulate - yesterday). I had a weird sleep schedule today, so I didn't temp.... but, I'm assuming it will be in the 98 range when I take it again tomorrow.
It has been pretty cold, so maybe that's why my temps were the same?? Not sure, honestly- since this is my first month temping.
I am paying attention to CM - and had honestly been using that as my guide for the last several month (not taking temps at all). I wanted to see how my body registered, so I embarked on doing both. (kind of makes me feel like I science experiment, honestly!!) :)
Also - I do try to take it immediately when I wake up (reach for thermometer, try to hold it so the beeps don't wake up DH) :)

I'm new to charting and am trying to NOT get pregnant. I've been taking my temp at the same time every morning for the last week and it's been the same exact temperature EVERY SINGLE TIME. I even took it last night, and it read the same temp. I then had DH take his and it registered higher. That helped me feel like my basal thermometer isn't broken.... but is this normal? (having the exact same temp)? I'm about 16 days into my cycle... and I'm bad and have only skimmed TCOYF.... just curious what other's experiences were. I'm hoping I see a temp spike post ovulation soon.
