Ladies I need some help. We are going to start TTC this summer, but I want to get off the pill this month. We have a pretty sweet vacation planned for end of May so I would really like to avoid getting pregnant before then. I am 31 and have been on the pill since I was 17...so I have no idea what this will be like. Any suggestions on charting? Should I just wait to get off the pill until we get home from our trip?

I took the pill for about 18 months before stopping to TTC, when i stopped i had normal cycles thereafter, i actually lost a few pounds and felt better when i stopped. After i stopped the pill i charted for about 5 months before TTC. I really had no idea how my body would react (i have heard horror stories) so i thought it would take a long time to get normal but it didnt for me. That being said, you never know so right before a vacation may not be good but from my experience i was fine.

I read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility and used the website www.tcoyf.com to chart my cycles. We are now 10 weeks pregnant so it worked for us.

If you are definitely planning on charting go ahead and start doing so when you stop the pill. It isn't a big deal if you miss a few days of temp taking during your vacation but do what you can the rest of the time to be as consistent as possible. In the mean time, use back up birth control methods until you are seeing very strong patterns in your charts to be able to rely on that alone.
