Getting married in New Haven on Sept. 10th, and we still don't have a caterer (we only got engaged a month ago...). Do any of you ladies know of any less expensive caterers in the area? We're trying to keep in under $20pp...

@hellomrsko: You won't be able to find anything for that price unless you are ok with doing something more casual like BBQ food or sandwiches. I might suggest calling a local restaurant and seeing if they will set up a buffet for you. However, it won't include any staff. I'm not sure if that's an issue for you or not.

It depends on your venue, but you may be able to bring in a food truck for that price. Most food truck meals are $5-$8. If your venue and the formality of your wedding allows, and the truck is available, it would be great fun.

@julies1949: Are you from CT? The cupcake trucks in the New Haven area are $5 per person.

Maybe you can find a COOK that will be interested in making some side money. Heavy Hors d' oeuvres are an option. Pick 6-10 different items and roll with it.

We had a restaurant make thai food for us that we picked up and brought to our venue ourselves (well, some family members picked it up, but you get the idea). Ethnic food restaurants would be a good resource to look into. Some will deliver. Some will cater. It will probably be way cheaper. Ours was. We fed about 130 people dinner for $1200, had way too much food at the end, and heard from countless people that it was the best wedding food they've ever had.

Thank you for all the ideas everyone!

@julies1949: I emailed the cheese truck and they never got back to me :(

@mwitter80: We were actually thiking of doing this but it seems that everyone is already booked, we found a clambake that sounded indcredible, but it would put us over budget

@specialklove: You know, this might not be a bad idea... I'm just worried about everything getting there in one piece.
