@MrsAu:  my bank at least can print out a page of 8 cheques. But why not just get them all changed?  Cheques are like less than 25 bucks per book.  Ours from our joint account are all and/or cheques.

Each bank charges differently. Most of the time they go through Deluxe. I get mine at my credit union for free. One of the few perks of being an employee.

I saw a 20/20 special about using outside check printing companies and how things can go bad!  I’d stick to just the bank.  I just got three checks printed today for free, as I haven’t gotten my name changed yet and will wait to buy a whole new book of checks.

I always go through my bank to order checks. I just log into my account, click self service, then reorder checks. There is a direct link from there to their vendor- Harland Clarke. It’s super simple and easy.

I would recommed that the most because then you don’t have to deal with people who shouldn’t be knowing your information, be knowing your information. Like, no miskeying of account numbers and etc. It just makes it so much easier and secure, I think. Plus a box of checks is only like 20-30$ depending on what style you like.

Usually if you get the sunday paper there will be some checks advertised in the coupons section. I used these before, then ordered them through Costco. They were both much cheaper options than the bank!

If it were me I’d just write your name at the top (above his) in extra fine Sharpie or something else waterproof.  I’ve had the same box of checks for 8 years (it’s half full), the address is wrong (has been for 6+ years), and soon I’ll be crossing out and rewriting the last name in addition to the addres. 🙂

Before that I had checks bought from the bank when I first opened my first account when I was 15. For the next 13 years I ONLY bought from the cheap check places (even when I moved and changed accounts). The ones like you get in your mail box on ad day or out of magazines/newspapers.  Who pays $25 a book when they can pay $5-$10 a box!

Also who writes checks??? 🙂  (funny haha-no offense!)… I did write one just the other day for my dress at a cash/check only consignment shop!  I always keep one in my wallet just in case.
