Hubby and I want to do a last minute trip anywhere next week. Problem is that we live in the midwest and anything within driving distance is on the boring side. Do cheap flights exist anywhere? I was told once to book early on tuesday mornings, has anyone heard of this? Suggestions?

Fare Compare is quite specific that the best time to book last minute travel is 3pm EST
You should also “like” the facebook accounts of your airlines and travel sites.
Subscribe to their twitter feeds- many sales are only publicized on social media now.

Give Priceline or Kayak a shot – I prefer Priceline, but Kayak has some cool features. My partner and I haev used Priceline so much, and even for short notice vacations for great deals.

I’ve also heard about tuesday mornings – good for you for thinking about getting away! Most people don’t do that enough! Good luck with your hunt!

depends where you are and what your airport is (if you live in a smaller area, your best shot is the closest BIG airport)…
i would look into the following (and the such…)
PS. I am in an LDR with my Boyfriend or Best Friend who lives in the Midwest (MI..is that midwest?)..I shop for airfare a lot..have read all of the fare compare rules have never found the Tuesday/Wednesday rule to be very accurate in terms of when the flight prices go down, but it IS cheaper to TRAVEL on Tuesday/Wednesday and sometimes Saturday. I have a post that is currently in limbo (it has to be checked for spam??) on the LDR board which talks about my adventures in airline shopping..so I imagine it will show up at some point hopefully in the next few days

I’ve always had great luck with Southwest. They often are running deals from various airports, and their rates are usually very comparable to other major airlines. Their benefit is that you can check your first 2 bags for free, which is great! I’ve also heard good things about booking on Tuesdays, but I have never done that myself.

Its not tuesday mornings, its tuesday or wednesday afternoon. I fly a LOT and I cant tell you it holds true.

I just saw a commercial on tv this morning about southwest having a (starting at) $69 fare sale. Should check that out! Not sure how awesome of deals they actually have but it might be worth looking. If I hadn’t just took off a week to get married, I’d be all over it. Haha!
When I do fly, I usually go on weekdays, Tues/Thursdays, and it seems cheaper, but who knows if it’s really true. I think I mostly do it to avoid all the crowds of weekend travellers.
