bump... come on girls! I know yall have great ideas that i REALLY need :)
How about Las Vegas? In May it'll be warm enough to lounge by the pool. Air and hotel packages are super cheap. Amazing restaurants to eat at. Nightlife if you want it. Shopping and shows.
My hubs and I went there for 5 days/4 nights for our mini moon. We had a HUGE suite at the Venetian. Air and hotel only cost us $800 for both of us. We also got tons of coupons for restaurants at the Venetian. It was perfect for a quick getaway.
Another idea for May... perhaps you can look into booking on a cruise? Great deals can be had if you can get onto a repositioning cruise.
Vegas... I hadn't even thought of it! That sounds pretty good... and cheap! Where did you fly out from?
Think domestic. Where haven't you been? Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Cali? Every state really does have tourist opportunities. Go to the state tourism websites. See if there are any festivals taking place in May in each state. For example, here is a quick search I did for Phoenix, Arizona http://phoenix.about.com/cs/events/a/festivals05.htm
What about south Florida? South Carolina? Anywhere with a warm beach within the US could potentially be cheap, depending on if you just plan to lay around at the beach all day :)
I agree with other posters, think domestic! Do you live in South Carolina (assuming SC is where you live and are getting married)? Perhaps Florida or California would be good options?
I’ll suggest Las Vegas. It’s a great place. However, do your detailed research online to get the best possible rates.
not knowing what type of people you are, i would say Vegas!
If you are outdoorsy type of people, dh and i just came back from our hm a couple weeks ago and we toured all around Utah....it was beautiful! They have like 5 national parks, and each park has different levels of hiking trails, picnic areas, campgrounds, etc. Nature at its best. We toured a different park each day. We got to stay at cabins and bed & breakfasts inns and it was sooo romantic since all the owners knew it was our hm and made us feel extra special. Each place we stayed at we made sure it had a nice large tub and private balconies, etc.
We also did Vegas on the way back fr. Utah to CA. Sooo much fun. Great nightlife, great food, great shopping, so many places to see, lots of great shows to see.
CA is also a great place. I'm on the email list fr. several travel sites and i never stay in a hotel for more than $150 a night. For example, this past weekend we stayed at the Omni Hotel in San Diego its in the beginning of Gaslamp district and across from the beach and we only paid $99 a night instead of $250.
We are going to a bed and breakfast about 4 hours from where we live. It's a really nice and a romantic get away for the week. Plus, since we're staying for a week, they're giving us a 10% discount! :-)
I have heard that national parks are beautiful places to travel to. I have not been to one yet, but am looking into it after hearing about it from several people.
btw, if you go to vegas, def. go to the grand canyon if you have not been. fremont st. is much cheaper than the strip.. about 10 mins. away by cab.
we're going to jamaica, couples for 7 nights all inclusive for under $3000, thats including airfare and hotel!!!!
the thing with going to downtown vegas/fremont street, its all older people. very old las vegas style. its nice to visit during the day/maybe for an evening but don't expect any action unless its at the tables. no dance clubs or interesting shows and i don't recommend eating in downtown. but if you want a more low key vegas style, than by all means it may be for you! but the action is really on the strip.
the trip from lv to grand cyn, az is about 5 hours. its a longggg boring drive. But near lv is the hoover dam/lake mead area! its a nice short drive with lots of sightseeing on the way.
Go camping! That's what my FI and I are planning to do.
I have never been to South Carolina (is that where you live or just where you are getting married?), but I hear there are beautiful mountains and beautiful beaches there! Or, a friend went to Atlanta last May and Loved it! Said there was tons to do and see and being so far south it was warmer (which isn't hard, since we live in Wisconsin!). Or, I bet Florida is not too far. Miami would be nice for laying on a beach and Orlando would be great to go to Disney and have tons of fun! Or, if you're geeky like me!, you could see if there are any planning shuttle launches during your honeymoon and go see that (I dream of doing this one day!). Or take a tour of the Everglades...
Have you looked into all-inclusive resorts in the Carribbean? I found a FABULOUS deal a few weeks back- $600 a person for 7 days, 6 nights. Unfortunately, even That awesome deal is out of our miniscule budget (sigh), but that's an amazing price! If you have a Sam's Club membership (or know someone who does) they do discount travel and comparing their prices to Orbitz, they often came out cheaper by quite a bit.
I also third or forth the Las Vegas idea! I will also throw out LA and San Francisco because both are beautiful cities with Tons to do and see.
My husband and I got married on December 20th, and since we wanted to be home for Christmas, we didn't go far. We also wanted to stay under a certain budget. We got a really nice hotel room at one of the nicest hotels in SLC, (we live about thirty minutes away from there) and spent three days just sightseeing, hanging out, going to restaurants, and lounging in the hotel room. It was the best because it was so fun, cheap, and we didn't have to worry about the stress of visas, money, transportation, etc.
FH and I considered Vegas but to be honest - we are afraid we will go overboard for gambling and that's a tough way to start a marriage.
So we are in between a cruise and a trip to Arkansas to Diamond Hunt...
The Arkansas one is cheapest but I want like a luxury suite and a LITTLE bit of gambling.. so probably a cruise
We looked all around for a cheap all-inclusive and found the best deals on honeymoonsinc.com. (They're based in Georgia, and have excellent BBB ratings). I called and they were fantastic to work with. I would call and ask them what type of deals they have going on! Because they book in such high quantities, it was cheaper to book through them then through the resort directly!
Go on a cruise! We went on one last summer and spent under a $1000 when all was said and done(cruise, then all the add-ons like drinks and excursions) for a 5 day cruise.

Well, we've got a little money to play around with, but since we have no idea how much deposits on a new place and other stuff could cost us, we're looking to go somewhere fun, cheap and warm! Reading some of the other threads is difficult b/c the ideas were so time specific...
(PS-I know I haven't been around much... good to be back, hive!)
