i have visited 3 to 4 stores so far.  have not found anything stunning!  i just want to find something simple and nice, nothing childish, not too poffy.  i used to think that the wedding gown is the MAIN thing.  but now, finding them they are not cheap, i don't want to spend a fortunate on it.  honestly, i don't want to spend more than $1,000.  and i am hoping to find it below $400 if possible.  anyway, if you have any recommendations on stores to check out, please help.  thanks soooo much!

Try the Jessica McClintock outlet... they have several racks of dresses.  They're definitely nothing fancy, and they have all sizes.

The weekend I went (Memorial Day Weekend) they had ALL wedding gowns marked down to 75 dollars.  It may not be the case when you go, but they're in the $400 price range.  Just budget a bit for alterations.

And be prepared, the fitting room is a communal room... and if you want to take pictures,  you have to be a ninja about it.  Use something without a flash.  And hide the camera fast.

    salad,

Consider looking into bridesmaid dresses. Even the nicest ones will run under $400. They are not poofy at all and are quite simple. :)

Also, check out some Casablanca dresses. They're under the $1000 mark. Also check eBaY and preownedweddingdresses.com .

    Look into JCREW: http://www.jcrew.com/content/ms/weddingshop/droplets/main.jhtml?_requestid=60202

    Or Nordstrom: http://shop.nordstrom.com/C/6005464/0~2376776~2374327~6005464?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=leftnav&pbo=2374327

You can easily find dresses at both these places for probably $400 or less

On yelp I read that Jennifer Croll has Nicole Miller wedding dresses that are reasonably priced, but I haven't been there personally to try them on.  Could be a potential option: http://www.jennifercroll.com/brides.html

I got my dress at L'Ezu on Steiner, and I love the girl who owns it, but it was more than you want to pay ($2500).

I second the Jessica McClintock outlet in Potero Hill!  That's where I found my dress...for $72.68 including taxes! Best part?  It's a simplified version of the dress I'd always dreamed of and only needed one tiny tuck at the portrait sleeve.  It is hit or miss though. Been back twice for my bridesmaids and nothing nothing nothing!

    Good luck!

i found my dress through craigslist - monique lhuillier for $700!

    try oncewed.com.

i also visited a shop (run out of the owner's home at the time - she was in the middle of relocating, i think) called cherished wedding gowns by consignment in pleasont hill. the number is 925-280-0128. my friend bought her lhuillier gown there for $600.

Trudy's and Bay Area Bridal have lots of dresses under $1000 that are great!  You also might try buying it online at www.bestbridalprices.com or Pearl's Place, or netbride.  I would also try out craigslist.  Good luck!

i would recommend finding a dress you love first (style wise), whether it be an expensive label or not, and then getting it used because you can find amazing deals. There are many websites where you can find pre owned dresses at a fraction of the cost. My friend bought her pronovias dress for 650.00, and the person through in the matching veil for free, and then she sold it again so she got all her money back.

Not sure what size you are looking for or even style, but this just goes to show you there are cheap options out there, I found this on the boards: http://classifieds.weddingbee.com/topic/beautiful-brand-new-allure-wedding-gown-350-obo

I would love for you to give my shop a try.  I have quire a few samples on sale and all of my regular dresses are considered inexpensive.  Plus I buy in a unique way so I do not have the same dresses as other stores.

Check out my website it only has a sampling of what I have but maybe you will see something you like.

If looking in the city, I suggest Bridal Image.  They carry some of the same lines as Bay Area Bridal.  They have tons of dresses under $1000.

And I'm surprised no one mentioned Glamour Closet.  They carry samples and are super reasonable.

I found a lot of $595 options with Nicole Miller. Simple & sophisticated. I got my dress on massive discount thru Jcrew, and 2 friends got their dresses from nordstrom or macy's for under $300. There ARE options! good luck!

Wedding dresses are costly. Still, there are some options for saving money on your wedding day attire. Borrow jewelry and accessories, buy second hand shoes and make your own veil. You can also consider making your own dress or having a seamstress make it for you which can save a lot of money over an expensive dress.

Why not purchase your dress on line ? I have a good experience. I purchased dresses for my friend and myself from Peridress. It is great for us, they fit well and they are very pretty.

@jacz:  i second glamour closet. some great finds - my friend got a $1000 dress for $600 which i thought was pretty good.  be careful to to look at the dress as there are sometimes missing pieces to the dress when u buy it.
