So my family was planning on throwing me an engagement party in our home in CA, which is very sweet of them. Recently though my grandma has fallen ill and my mom wants to move the party to NYC where she is living so it will be easier for her to attend.
I love this idea, but the problem is that now it isn’t in our home we will have to pay to have it somewhere. We don’t have a lot of money budgeted for this so my mom is stressing out about affording to take all of these people out to a restaurant. Particularly because it would be near her more distant cousins etc so she would feel obligated to invite a lot more people I have never met…which could mean cutting back on the friends my FI and I are really close to and would love to invite!
We would actually prefer a cocktail party where the families and friends could mingle and get to know one another, so I told my mom I would start brainstorming for an inexpensive space where we could invite everyone for an evening and pass around some hors d’oeuvres. It doesn’t even need to be a traditional event space, just someplace pretty where we could bring 50 or so people! Ideas?
TL;DR anyone know an inexpensive place to host a catered engagement party in NYC?
