I think that's an amazing idea! I would freakin' love a cheesecake topping buffet! I wouldn't mind going up there but I do see her point. You know how people get up there and then they're like, "oh man, they all look so good, which one should I choose?!". Maybe your venue would be able to put a few selections in serving dishes and provide them to each of the tables? It doesn't seem like it would be terribly difficult for them. They definitely have the serving pieces, and to bring them out along with the cheesecake eliminates the need for a second trip to the kitchen.
No, I think the topping buffet sound really good! No one will mind... plus, it's much more at your leisure than dinner. (And lots of people do buffets anyway.)
I honestly think it's a great idea. :)
I just went to a wedding with a cheesecake topping buffet and it ROCKED. The whole dessert ordeal is slower paced and people will appreciate being able to customize it. I say keep the family style dinner and the do the dessert the way you want it.
The cheesecake buffet sounds great. Not everyone likes toppings on it though. However, there is nothing wrong with people getting up to serve themselves as that is done all the time with regular cake. There won't be a mad rush either since everyone will get theirs at different times. The problem with serving the dessert family style is that you may have everyone at the table want the same thing or they may all want something different. If you have choices pre-selected, then only some people will get what they want, which defeats the purpose of having choices.
I love that idea! How would the serving be any different than say a candy buffet? As long as people know it's not going to be brought to them. I would have your DJ announce that cheesecake would be available in a buffet.
ooh I LOVE the idea of toppings! Which ones are you including?

We are planning on having a plain cheesecake for our cakeand doing a topping buffet. I was talking with my parents about what type of meal we are planning and commented that I was going to see if our venue could do family style so people could still have choices, but not wait in line. My stop-mom then say "You would have people stand in line for a cheescake buffet, but not for dinner.
I gues I didn't really think getting the cheescake and putting topping on would take too long. What do you guys think, should I just forget about the topping buffet and go with different flavors in our layers?
