I adore cupcakes, but FI does not like cake at all, except cheesecake. We’ve found a place that actually does cupcake-sized cheesecakes! It won’t be (very much) cheaper than a tiered fondant cake, but FI would enjoy his dessert 😉
I was reading a previous post about the number of cupcakes we should order for guests and the consensus seemed to be that you should have quite a few extras. Cheesecake is a lot heavier than regular cupcakes, and we are already getting a dessert with the plated dinner. It’s a chocolate semifreddo with fruit compote, berry coulis and chocolate shortbread.
So I have 2 questions: What flavours should we get and how many cupcakes should we be ordering for 100 guests?
PS…we do have a few vegetarian guests, and all have told us that they love cheese. The bakery doesn’t offer a lactose-free version, but I only know of one person coming who is lactose intolerant and they take lactaid when needed. No one has indicated dairy allergies.

Hee hee! Thanks for voting 😀 I lol-ed at the dress stashing 😛
I would totally be super happy to take home the extras but we’re staying at the lodge for a few days after the wedding…I’m hoping they don’t mind if we keep the extras in their fridge and raid a few every night!

Our caterer recommended 1.25 cupcakes per guest (120 guests), and we had plenty left over.

Oh man how can I choose out of all of them they all sound so good mmmmmm
ok after much consideration and because of your dessert being chocolate I’m going to pick Lemon White Chocolate or Raspberry White Chocolate but I would eat any of them and your dessert I’m a sweet tooth.
I think you should order 120 cupcakes:)

i find cheesecakes very heavy, so I usually enjoy lighter, fruity flavours. I voted for the lemon and the raspberry, but I’m sure that all of these flavours will be very well received.

Thanks Bees! 😀
*runs off to show FI the poll results*
I was thinking we could get takeaway boxes for people to take extras back to the rooms with them, but now I’m not sure the rooms have fridges…
@Holly77 and @Catcat1
I’m leaning towards the raspberry and lemon too since we already have a chocolate dessert. Though I did try the quadruple chocolate before and it was divine! Can never have too much chocolate 😉

OMG now I want cheese cake I voted 150 for 100 because I REALLY love cupcakes & cheesecake but you would prob have a lot left over.

Yum! I have the biggest craving for cupcakes after reading your poll, ahaha. I voted for the lighter flavours – lemon and the two berry options – because as another PP pointed out, cheesecake is already fairly heavy. The idea of a caramel cheesecake gives me a bit of a sugar headache. I also voted 150 cupcakes just because I always over-order in any situation, but I’m sure 120 would be perfectly sufficient.

There are bakeries who make cheesecake wedding cakes. (At least there are here!) You could check into that. Maybe mix up the tiers with regular cake for those who don’t like cheesecake.
That said~I LOVE cupcakes and cheesecake! Will be doing cupcakes for my wedding and now I’m thinking I just might add a cheesecake cupcake!

@Cyclebride: We did briefly look into getting a regular wedding cake made out of cheesecake, but we nixed that idea fairly quickly because the baker we spoke to didn’t think a tiered cheesecake would survive the 5 hour drive through the mountains to get to our venue. Also the estimate we got from them was nearly double the cost of cupcakes! They didn’t do tastings so we would have had to buy a full size cake to try it :S With the cupcakes, the venue won’t charge a cutting fee ($1.50 per person) so it’s quite a bit of savings and we get to choose a lot more flavours.

@Summer_Rose: I would totally take a to-go box even if there wasn’t a fridge in my room. I’d drunk eat the hell outta those babies!
Is there an option for some cake cupcakes? Maybe not everyone likes cheesecake?
