I think that's a really cute idea! In fact, I might do it too!
We aren't doing assigned seating either. In fact, I've never been to a wedding with assigned seatings and I've been to a lot of weddings. It's just not something you typically do in our neck of the woods. Don't worry about it. People will sit with whoever they want to. They don't need you to make a seating chart...I do enough of that at work anyway being a teacher.
I think the picture idea is cute. If you decided not to do table numbers you could still use the pictures and incorporate them as part of your centerpiece
If you aren't assigning seats, then I don't really think you need to "number" the tables. That being said, I think the pictures of you and your FI at corresponding ages would look really cute on the tables and give your guests something to talk about. If you do include the ages, you don't have to set them around the reception in order (age 1 next to table with age 2) since the number would ony denote your age rather than where people are sitting.
I love the picture idea! I would totally steal that if we were having a bigger wedding.

cute idea but i am an advid seating chart person. you could just assign certain ppl to a certain table number.
i like the idea... im doing a project with our pics too but still trying to figure it out
I went to a wedding recently that did something very similar. They had different pics of them on each table with a different location. I personally am not a fan of the idea of a couples picture being on every table, but thats just my honest opinion. I think if you guys love the idea then you should do it. Everyone has different taste.

If I end up having my wedding reception where I want (in the distant distant future) I don't think I'm going to have assigned seating either.
I too have been to plenty of weddings without assigned seats and it was enver an issue.
I was thinking about putting pictures of us on the tables because we had some really cute engagement photos that we didn't get to share with everyone. We took our pictures with a vintage airplane and wore vintage clothing. So we went to a lot of trouble finding clothing and airplane. And only used one photo.

We will not be doing assigned seating at our reception, but I would still like to have table numbers because I'm kind of in love with my plan. I was thinking about putting pictures of myself and my FI at each table at the corresponding age of the table number. I thought it would be a good conversation piece and definitely good for a few laughs. So they wouldn't clash with the decor, I would probably print the pictures in black and white.
Do you think that is a good idea or no?
