I’m pretty sure this is a chemical pregnancy but I’d like to have opinions. Also want to hear about what your bleed was like if you did have a CP.
Had a faint BFP at 10dpo, darker at 11dpo. Qualitative blood test at 11dpo was negative. HPTs continued to darken until 17dpo (pic below) and stayed the same unti 19dpo. At 20dpo I had some light spotting and went in for blood work. My HCG was 10. TEN. I have no idea how it can be so low if I am having positive pregnancy tests. That night and the next day I had some heavy bleeding with clots. It resembled a normal period but was a little heavier. Today (22dpo) I had almost nothing. I didn’t even wear a pantiliner.
With a CP, shouldn’t the bleed resemble a normal period? Can it start and stop? Is it possible that that was it, all in one day?
I’d like to hear stories from others who have experienced this. Thanks!

I have never shared this with anyone.
I had a chemical pregnancy the month before I conceived my daughter.
I have always been bad at tracking my periods and I knew i was late but i really had no idea how late.
I was at work when i started getting really bad cramps. They eased during the later part of the afternoon and I forgot all about it.
That evening i decided to go to the store to get a HPT and it was when i was at the checkout I got the craziest cramps I had ever experienced. I dumped my groceries and HPT to the side and dashed to the toilet where i realised i was bleeding heavily.
I bled heavily for 3 days with lots of clots. on the 3rd day I passed something that i could only describe as a grey deflated marble and was completely different to the other clots i passed. I think this is when i realised i had experienced a chemical pregnancy. As soon as i had passed this tissue the bleeding slowed down drastically and lasted a further week in total.
For me it was nothing like my normal periods. Mine usually start light then peak at day 3 then tail off to brown spotting.
I did take a test during my bleeding and there was a faint line but nothing as dark as yours above.
When i concived my daughter I did have spotting and bleeding during the first 8 weeks. Mostly pink and brown nothing bright red

I’ve had two. In both scenarios I found out it was happening with FRER line getting darker and progressing, followed by the same, followed by lighter. Then, bleeding started and it would be 1-2 days of serious painful clot bleeds followed by 3-4 days of lighter/more normal period. I’m so sorry this happened to you.

Tmpalm: I actually had what I thought was my period. It was a little heavier than normal and I cramped sooo bad. But I had no clue I was pregnant at that point so I thought it was just awful AF. I bled for 3 days (normal AF length for me) then spotted for two days. Normally I don’t spot after. Then a day later I took an opk and because it was super dark on CD 6 I tested and got a BFP. It was super dark on the FRER. But the lines got progressively lighter. I started bleeding again on CD 9 and bled for 3 more days. At this point I knew what was happening so I expected lots of clots. This bleeding was actually pretty light and practically no clots, although I did cramp pretty bad the first day. My quants went from 84 on CD 7 to 17 on CD 9 when I started the 2nd round of bleeding. Even at 17 I was able to get + HPTs depending on when I tested, they were just really light.
I am so sorry you’re going through this.

I had cramping for one day and then bled like a period for maybe 3-4 days. I only needed a liner after the first day really, it wasn’t heavy.
My FRER also looked like that 2 days after my AF was due, but when I had the HCG blood test done less than a week later it was 7. Yep, 7. I don’t really understand it either. The worst part for me was when the nurse tried to schedule me to the repeat blood test. I was like really? Do I need ANOTHER confirmation that this is a MC? Thanks lady…

ChocolateLime: Thank you for sharing that. I was expecting to experience more of what you described. I’m glad to hear that you have a daughter now!
Andthepupmakes3: Thanks. It was so confusing to see the FRER getting darker and then just have this happen.
Ellie85: Okay, interesting that you had 2 rounds of bleeding. Not that I’m hoping for more, of course, but it’s confusing that I just had the one day.
Westwood: Right, I didn’t know what to think when I saw the number 10. I was researching if there might be another scale that they use because it just seemed so impractially low!
Thanks again everyone. It’s been a rough weekend- I’ve been going back and forth between sad and angry (like really? a week of complete happiness thinking I was going to have a baby and now this???) I’ll see what the doctor says tomorrow, although I know the answer already.

I hope you get your answers tomorrow/today.
Just remember thought that if it is bad news to take time to grieve your loss. It doesnt matter how far along you are a chemical pregnancy was still a pregnancy.
I hate the way early misscarriages/chemical pregnancies are often disregarded.

I had a chemical the cycle before this pregnancy. I had faint BFPs on FRERs on 13dpo, 14dpo, 15dpo and I got my period either 15 or 16dpo. It was less than two days of heavy clotty bleeding and then it stopped. It was shorter than my normal AF. I had been trying for a long time and I knew that such faint bfps that late in my cycle wasn’t a good sign. I’m sorry you are going through this. FWIW I got pregnant the next cycle and I’ll be 16w tomorrow.

So the doctor confirmed today that it was a chemical pregnancy. The worst part of the conversation: “it’s not the news you were hoping for, but it’s not bad news.” She meant there was nothing wrong from a reproductive-system standpoint, but still… I do feel like this was a loss, however early it was.
jny1179: That sounds similar to my experience. Congrats on the pregnancy!!!

Tmpalm: That is a ridiculous answer from her. It’s still bad news. It’s still a loss for you and it still hurts. Great that everything else seems good but that does not make it “not bad news.” Sorry 🙁
ChocolateLime: Agree 100%

Tmpalm: I’ve had 5. Every time the lines starting getting lighter on the FRERs and when I went to the doctor for blood work, my betas would not double. My periods after a CP were usually heavier and with clots. I’m really sorry you have to go through this, CPs are a rollercoaster of emotions in such a short period of time. Sending you tons of positive thoughts ((hugs))

Turtle83: Thanks. You’re right, this has been just a crazy emotional 2-week stretch!

I am so sorry. 🙁 I had a CP back in June and havent been able to concieve since (although, it took us 14 months just to concieve with the chemical, so I was drained at that point and have not really been trying super hard since then) but I know how awful the feeling is. It’s like someone played a sick joke on you.
I know you were wondering about other people and their CPs before you got confirmation but I wanted to add that my august cycle (so two cycles after my chemical) I had two periods and beginning to midcycle spotting which was highly unusual for me. The cycle I had my chemical, I just had a faint pos 10dpo, darker at 12, then lighter at 14 and on. My period came right as scheduled and bleeding was not at all out of the oridnary. Don’t know if that helps you at all but just thought I should mention it for you!!
Wish you the best of luck in your TTC journey and hope you get a sticker really soon!!
