Honestly, it looks like a pagent dress. And it looks a little “old”. I dont know how old you are, but it just doesn’t seem young and happy to be engaged…you know?

I love this idea (I’m big on formal, black-tie affairs, as well). I think everything is fabulous, except for two small concerns:

    • the shoes: I adore Kate Spade and glittery accessories, but the bright colors are VERY bright IRL. So, that specific pink might not look right with that hue of teal on your dress. If you have seen them IRL and it goes…then disregard this comment because other than that small concern…they are glamorously chic!
    • the dress: I disagree with PP who said the dress looks too old. I love the look from the front, but not so much from the back. The vertical seam + extreme ruching on the bodice might actually make the dress look too “young” (think early-mid 2000 Homecoming styles). But again, it all depends on your body shape and how it looks on you.

*I also did a quick search through your posts, and you have quite excellent sartorial taste. 😀

Personally, I would go with a shorter dress. Maybe knee length.

@Khlobee:  I like the second dress you have posted.  I feel like the first dress really over powers your DH’s outfit in formality & something just isn’t striking me with that dress :/.

Overall, it’s certainly not bad, but not “right” either.

@Khlobee:  You’re welcome. 🙂 And I don’t think you should go with a short dress if that’s not what you want. Everyone and their mom automatically thinks “short dress” when doing an engagement shoot. So there’s nothing wrong with going more formal, especially if it reflects you.

Would that second dress be instead of the VW?  If it is, I don’t think it’s formal at all (more beachy/casual). Either way, it is gorgeous, and that rich blue color is utterly splendid.

And I’m always a fan of photos.

@Khlobee:  Not at all! I’m all for outfit changes because we’re all multifaceted, and you can then showcase different aspects of your personality. I also think the blue would look wonderful with a statement necklace. It’s sounds like beautiful glamorous bohemian look (if there is such a thing). 🙂

I have a thing for a fabulous leather jacket + girly outfit (I thinks it’s the juxtaposition):

Definitely go with the original long dress. I am a huge fan of formal engagement shoots and I am saddened that we don’t see them more! We had a formal engagement session and everyone absolutely loved it. We are also having a black tie wedding and it really Set a formal tone. However, I would lose the shoes. I think for an engagement session you mainly want the focus to be on your ring and your love. The shoes are very overpowering. Perfect for a bridal shoe, but I do think that it might take away from the overall picture for an e shoot. The dress in itself is so simple and gorgeous, and I’m sure you and your fiancé are as well ….so let that do most of the work 🙂 That’s what we did and they turned out great! enjoy your session. Can’t wait to see updates 🙂

Also I did want to add we did throw some casual shots in there, I would def suggest doing some of those as well. It’s just nice to have a variation 🙂

I love long dresses in engagement pictures, and I think this dress (with black pumps as PP suggested) would be gorgeous. And I love the idea of a leather jacket, just because I feel he is going to be fairly informal with no jacket on, so it will tone down the evening dress quite a bit. I am so excited for how these are going to turn out!
